Another forum shoutout today!

There is no shortage of different designs in the multitool industry, and SOG's Sync I is a definite standout.

Smaller than it's brother, the Sync II, the Sync I features pliers, blade, screwdriver, bottle opener and file.  Like it's bigger brother, it has a unique carrier that can attach to a strap or belt, or even be worn as a belt buckle!

There's more to the Sync I than can be told in an IG post, so make sure to check out our forum for the whole story!  https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,71311.0.html

I have a Sync II and they are pretty cool, never worn it on a belt but the clip makes it something that one could put on a pack pretty easily :tu: :like:

If I had to choose one or the other, I think I would go with the Sync II- it has a lot more "meat" to it, which is something I like in a tool.  I also like the relatively blunt plier head on both Sync models.  Honestly, while they may not be as heavy duty as a PowerLock, Surge or Center Drive, the Sync models are very underrated and surprisingly versatile.

There are a lot of tools I like and a lot I don't like, but I think the Sync models deserve a lot more credit than they get.

Gerber made a splash when they announced the Center Drive a few years ago, and for good reason.

The giant, locking, one handed opening blade and sliding head pliers would be good enough, but the central axis screwdriver really puts it over the top, not to mention giving the Center Drive its name.

Inside there are more goodies, like a folding prybar, serrated blade and even a bit carrier!

Gerber was out to get Leatherman in the ad campaign  still probably mad about the LM OHT :D

It is a great looking tool and one I have never picked up yet and who knows, may never  Not because it is a bad tool but just something I have never felt a big draw to :dunno:

Trying to post quickly at work....

Also known as the Junior, this Sentry model stands out from the rest due to the factory issued Mother of Pearl handles.

This is one of the simplest models from Victorinox, featuring only a single blade, which makes this 84mm elegantly understated, but still a very useful item to have around.  It embodies the term "gentleman's knife" perhaps more than any other.

It may be hard to believe, but this Byrd Harp Tool is a throwback to the pre Leatherman days when many tools looked like this!

Surprisingly, the Harp Tool manages to include many useful features not found on too many others- features like a combination bottle opener/hammer and a drill bit for boring holes by hand!

More typical features include a flathead screwdriver, file, saw and corkscrew!

When it comes to evolution, the Wave model from Leatherman is no slouch.  Pictured here is the original 1998 issue version, issued until it was replaced with an upgrade in 2004.

Now there's another Wave, the Wave + that adds replaceable cutters, a feature that Leatherman users have been adding for some time by swapping in the plier head from a Leatherman Rebar.

Whether you are looking for a collectable or a user, the Wave is an important model to keep in mind!  https://wiki.multitool.org/tiki-index.php?page=Wave

I have more Charges than Waves.... but IMHO, I'd recommend the Wave over the Charge every time.

The Charge just isn't worth the extra $$ for a fancy handle material that isn't structural, doesn't help with corrosion resistance or is in significant enough quantities to reduce weight.  Oh yeah, and a fancy knife steel.

Get a Wave and a sharpening stone....  :pok:

Or look for a Charge on ebay that is cheaper than the Wave  :D

As far as using the Wave performs as good or better than a Charge in most tasks but that being said it would be hard for me to completely give up my Charge + :D

If you already have it, I certainly wasn't suggesting that you toss it in the trash!   :ahhh

I was just meaning that for someone who doesn't know about tools, wants one that works and they aren't interested in collecting, if it comes down to the Wave and Charge, I can't see the justification for the extra $$.

Another oddball today!

Every company has done some experiments in the weird and wonderful category to stand out in the industry- and SOG is no different!

The Baton series had four different models, all meant to be carried anywhere you could carry a pen, and each with its own James Bond style gadgetry inside!

This Q2 features a bottle opener with integrated screwdriver, a knife blade and flashlight!

I had the Q1, which consisted of scissors, bottle opener/straight screwdriver, and a pen with a pressurized ink cartridge. The scissors cut great, but I found the handles had a tendency to try to fold back up.

Overall, I liked it. But I no longer have it. It was one of the items I contributed to Sos24's GAW.

One of these days I'll get them.

Aptly named, the SuperTool from Leatherman was a bigger, heavier, tougher version of the PST, ready for someone who needed a little something extra!

The SuperTool was so successful that it spawned a series named after it, each one just as tough, and each one incorporating its own style- the SuperTool 200 had a rolling lock system and the SuperTool 300 features handle cutouts for better access of the internal tools.

Learn all about the SuperTool at the Multitool Encyclopedia- only at Multitool.org!  https://wiki.multitool.org/tiki-index.php?page=Super+Tool
