When it comes to absolute sheer toughness, it's hard to think of a tool willing to get dirtier and be pushed harder than the SOG PowerLock.

In the old days, normal folks carried Leatherman, regular military guys carried the Gerbers they were issued, but the really serious guys like EOD's, heavy diesel mechanics and people that needed a tool they could rely on no matter what always had a PowerLock.

Almost a quarter of a century later and the PowerLock is still available, still in production and still one of the toughest tools you can buy.  Find out why with the Multitool Encyclopedia, always at Multitool.org. https://wiki.multitool.org/tiki-index.php?page=PowerLock

The first of Leatherman's five original Juice models to be discontinued was the KF4- a decision that baffles collectors and users alike.

While also offered in Storm Grey, the Solar Yellow pictured here was by far the most iconic, and the only Leatherman model to be offered in this color.

Minor correction:  LM also made a small number of Squirt P4's with yellow handle covers, I've read of at least 4, I have 2.  LM have made a few Squirts in non-standard colours (yellow, purple, orange, black, pink)  over the years, and some of them obviously escaped into the wild.

I have never heard of or seen any of these.  I wonder if it was another LM Australia things like the camouflage Juice models?

Either way  this is information that should definitely be added to the Encyclopedia.  :pok:

All of these are recent uploads, how many can you name without going back through the pics?  😀

While it may look like someone got a laser  cutter for Christmas and went nuts with it, the Spyderco Q knife was actually quite a revolution when it was released.

The Q makes for a fantastic collectible, as it was meant to be a one of a kind advertising product- rather than the Spyderco spyder in the main blade, companies could opt to have their own logos cut in its place.  For me, I am content to have this one as these have skyrocketed in price over the years!

It weighs very, very little.

I love it.  It is not only an extremely nice knife in its own right, but it is also a great size, very effective and one hell of a showpiece with a very interesting back story.

And this one is even better because it was a gift, making it extra special.

Credit where credit is due!

We look at a lot of tools here, but what good are they if you can't see what you are doing?  That's where lights like this Zebralight SC51 come in!

I'll admit that I often try to look like a smart guy, posting details, history and little anecdotes about things, but the reality is that all that info is supplied by our forum members, and the SC51 is no different!

If you also want to look smart, maybe it's time you checked out our forum- we have a whole flashlight section set up to make you seem a little brighter too! https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,89630.0.html

The Victorinox Forester, pictured here in factory issued wood scales, is a very popular model.

This wood version was issued in 2017 and features a liner locking main blade and bottle opener, which sounds like overkill until you realize it has an integrated screwdriver.  If you've ever had that screwdriver fold on your fingers under hard use, you will appreciate the lock!

And it wouldn't be Victorinox if there weren't some weird naming things going on too, but for that you'll have to check out SAKWiki for the details!  https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Forester+Victorinox

Love the Forester! The OHO version is my favorite camp knife. Big enough and with the right tools to get the job done, but small enough to be easy to pocket, drop in a pouch, etc.

With golf being so popular, it should come as no surprise that there are many golf related tools out there- and this Wenger Golf Pro is a fine example.

Unlike many of the models that bear the Golfer name, this one actually has golf related functions, including a shoe spike wrench, a divot repair tool (mine has never been used, I swear!) and a club face cleaner mounted on the back.  It also has the typical main blade and a combination tool that serves as a can opener, bottle opener and screwdriver.

Read all about the Golf Pro at SAKWiki.com, the archives maintained by the Swiss Army Knights!  https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Golf+Pro

What tool do you reach for after a day of fox hunting, when your pate refuses to spread itself?  Leatherman's answer to that question was the Flair.

This was originally designed to be a multitool suitable for fancy occasions by fancier people and adds a pate spreader, corkscrew and cocktail fork to the usual assortment of screwdrivers found on a typical Leatherman of the era.  Nowadays they are highly prized by collectors.

And, in case you are wondering, not counting the fasteners, there are 17 pieces that make up the Flair.  https://wiki.multitool.org/tiki-index.php?page=Flair

Finishing off the week with another classic yet weird tool!

If you looked at the sliding head mechanism of this tool and immediately thought Gerber, you'd be right... sort of!

This version is the Paul Chen MultiTasker but it was originally the Fiskars Excalubur, and has also been known by a few other names in its time.  The Excalibur version was produced in China under license to Fiskars, Gerber's parent company, but this Paul Chen version has no connection, other than being made by the same people in the same factory.  And, it has perhaps the best set of shears available on any multitool anywhere!

Read all about the confusing pedigree of the Paul Chen MultiTasker with the Multitool Encyclopedia, only at Multitool.org!  https://wiki.multitool.org/tiki-index.php?page=Paul+Chen+Multi+Tasker

Gerber's new Dual Force is one of the most popular multitool models released this year and it's easy to see why!

The Dual Force is a hefty tool that enters Gerber into a very select club of manufacturers that offer a set of slip jointed pliers, only seen previously on the Schrade ST5, Spyderco SpydeRench (and the Byrd version of) and the small, folding pliers found on 85mm series Wenger Swiss Army Knives.  And, as the only one of these models in current production, it's probably the best choice if you need slip jointed pliers.

But don't take my word for it- between the Forum at Multitool.org and the Multitool Encyclopedia we have all of them covered!

As simple as possible, the Victorinox Bantam still packs a lot of features into a single layer on the small 84mm frame.

Available in both ALOX and cellidor, the Bantam's versatility lies in the combo tool, which combines can opener, bottle opener, flathead screwdriver and wire stripper, all in one!

I like it.  It's not perfect, and there are some things I really don't like about it, but if you want a massive set of pliers it's not a bad way to go.

When it came to coupling innovation with rock solid reliability you just can't beat SOG tools like this Paratool- well, you can, but it will just come back for more!

Utilizing a unique plier folding mechanism the ParaTool allowed the plier to be used in a side handle configuration, a feature co-designer Blackie Collins appreciated when working in the hard to reach areas of his motorbike.  Couple that with SOG's user replaceable tools and you get a tool that could do more than modern tools, despite 30 years of development since the ParaTool was released in 1992!

See what makes the ParaTool so great with the Multitol Encyclopedia, always at Multitool.org! https://wiki.multitool.org/tiki-index.php?page=ParaTool

Just as a follow up- if you don't have a ParaTool, you should probably get one.  This is one of the most iconic and well designed tools out there, and it really has to be held and used to be appreciated.

There are some great tools out there, but this is, in my opinion, one of the absolute best.

First day of SAKtember and a new 30 day challenge!

It's the first day of SAKtember, and what better way to start of Swiss Army Knife Spetember than with the single bladed Sentinel from Victorinox?

SAKtember (or Swiss Army September if you must!) will be a celebration of all things Victorinox and Wenger, with a different SAK posted every day- no leather goods, baby food, nothing soggy, and nothing made on a bench to squish spiders in Columbia!

It's the second day of SAKtember and I thought what better way to continue than with the Victorinox Champion.

The Champion was the original "big" Swiss Army Knife and started a whole line of tools called Champ, from the keychain sized MiniChamp to the 111mm WorkChamp, and several models in between.

Day 3 of SAKtember!

Instead of one of my SAKs, I decided that today I'd show one of Multitool Meg's- and her camouflaged Victorinox Camper was quick to volunteer!

The Camper has always been one of my favorites, largely because it was my first Swiss Army Knife way back in the early 80's, and I probably passed that love for the model on to her.  Still, she wanted hers to stand out, so I put some camo scales on it for her and she carries it everywhere!

See why the Camper is such a cool model at SAKWiki.com!  https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Camper

And don't forget to join in the SAKtember fun with the Swiss Army Knights too! https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,89809.0.html

I can't say as I know anything about the people at Albany International, but I can say this- someone there has great taste in knives, and this blue ALOX Pioneer Pruner is proof of that!

Featuring just a pruning blade and a main blade this may not be the most versatile tool in your pocket, but if you are a gardener or a whittler, this may be an excellent choice for you. Oh yeah, and did I mention the stunning blue ALOX?  What's not to love?

Well used knives like this Victorinox Gourmet have so many stories to tell- I really wish they could talk!  This is what SAKtember is all about!

But that's not all that is interesting about this model- looking closely you will note the faded triangular shield and lack of toothpick/tweezer functions, which brand this model as an Elinox version.  Keep looking and you will see the blade tang doesn't have the Elinox marking on it!

If you don't know why that is cool then you, my friend, need to spend more time checking out SAKWiki.com!  https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Gourmet

The Victorinox SwissCard (SwissCard Classic) was quite revolutionary when released back in 1997, and is a great choice for this, the 6th day of SAKtember!

Packing a number of functions such as nail file, screwdriver and a pen to the usual Swiss Army Knife functions like scissors, knofe blade, toothpick and tweezers, the original SwissCard pictured here is an exceptional, low key toolset in a form factor that can be carried almost anywhere.

The Swiss Army Knights have compiled all the info stored at SAKWiki.com:  https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=SwissCard

While it may not have been one of the more exciting models, the Backpacker II from Wenger was extremely popular.

Featuring the can and bottle opener, main blade, small blade, wood saw, awl and corkscrew there are many different versions and variations including a serrated blade, a locking blade, Phillips driver in place of the corkscrew and a nail file in place of the small blade.

See all the variations on SAKWiki.com!  https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Backpacker+II
