November SAK Challenge??
on: October 02, 2021, 01:13:59 AM
Anyone interested in some type of SAK challenge for November? :climber:

I know there is a PST challenge scheduled, but wasn’t sure if there might be some interest from those who don’t have a PST.

I’m open for ideas?
Seeing how there has been small size and large size, maybe a 93mm Alox challenge?
Seeing that the Go Big was so recent, maybe a minimal (1-2 layer) or like with leatherman a Middle Man Challenge (4 layer)
Maybe a specific model

I’m open to suggestions if people are interested.

I'd be up for a 93mm challenge! That would also cover the span of layer counts mebtioned.

I could be game for a 93mm or a disco, but I don’t have a CheeseMaster, so that is a no go for me.

I added a poll with the 93mm and Disco.  I made it so people can vote twice, so if you would be interested in either you can vote for both.

So what says everyone else?

Nice idea! Were it not for the PST challenge I'd probably join a 93 mm challenge, bearing in mind I have a secret weapon  >:D

I’ll gladly do a 93mm next year.  It is just, like I indicated, I don’t have a PST and thought there might be some others in the same situation who would be interested in a challenge.

I voted Disco as I have several of those, but only one Alox, an old cross red Alox Pioneer. And it's too stripped down for tools for me to EDC it.
SAKs:
58mm: Bijou (3), Classic SD (7), Mini Champ Plus (mod), Alox Classic SD, Rambler (3), Companion
65mm: Wenger Esquire
74mm: Executive
85mm: Evolution S557, Traveler,
91mm: Champion "c", Swiss Champ (4), Explorer (3), Deluxe Tinker, Huntsman, Serrated Spartan/Weekender, Explorer Plus, Deluxe Explorer Plus (mod), Outdoorsman Plus, Champion "a", Champion Plus, Timekeeper Alarm, Golfer
93mm: Pioneer Alox

I've changed my mind and gone for both on this. Disco I could use my Wenger Commander, although coming off the back of the Delemont Challenge that seems a bit... Hmm.

93mm wise I currently only have a PX, which I've done the badge for, and a Wenger SI/Soldier... I've got half an eye on next year's Soldier On challenge, so I could do a warm-up with the SI and get the 30 day Soldier badge first.

Another thought... Would it be too much to just run with a "93mm challenge" where we don't necessarily have a collective theme, but people can get a badge they're after? I.e. I might go with the Soldier 30 Day, but someone else might go for the two layer badge?

I might be overthinking it by now. :ahhh

The 93mm where members go for existing badges if there is one is the most likely.

Usually there is a minimum number for a new badge, which depending on interest we may not meet.  But if a 93mm badge isn’t created, as you indicate, there are existing badges for Soldier, Pioneer X and Farmer X if people stick with one.
Maybe that is the way to go?  A November SAK Challenge Collective thread.   Members can go for different existing badges as long as they designate at the beginning of the month which one if any they are going for and then stick with it for the month.   The downside would be that I don’t think there is Farmer or Pioneer challenge or if people were wanting to swap between 93mm.  I’ll check with mods, if that is appealing.

With regards to the Disco challenge: would that be only for tools that have been outright discontinued, such as the Mechanic? Or would a previous version of a current tool (such as the MiniChamp I) be acceptable!

In fact I'll be very happy with a Disco or a 93mm, or a minimal, or a 58mm...

The fact is: A SAK challenge is always a nice idea! We are on MT.o. The fun is guaranteed!

I conferred with Mods and considering voting is split, it will be a “Choose Your Own SAK Challenge” with this being a consolidated thread.

Rules:
1.  Before Day 1 (November 1st) state the Challenge you are doing.  You can choose any Swiss Army Knife Challenge.  There will not be a badge created for this Challenge so if you want a badge you would need to choose a SAK Challenge that already exists in the Awards list.  If you don’t care about the badge, then you can choose any SAK(s) for the challenge.

2.  Once the Challenge starts you must stick with the challenge you said for 30 days.  You cannot change challenges in middle.  You may change the SAK during the challenge as long as it meets the description of the challenge.  For example if doing the Disco Challenge as long as the SAK used is a discontinued one, you can use multiple during the challenge.  But if you are doing the Pioneer X challenge, you can only use a Pioneer X for 30 days.

3.  The challenge SAK(s) should be your primary tool carried and used for the full 30 days.  You may have back-up, but it should not be used unless your challenge SAK cannot do the job.  Work, Safety, legal excluded.

4.  Each day for 30 days, post a picture of your challenge SAK.  Label the post with the Day

And with that who wants to participate in the November Choose Your Own Adventure SAK Challenge.

1. Sos24 - either Minimal or Rancher X (no badge)

The Mod ruling is that a discontinued version counts, because that tool set is no longer available.
