Day 1 of the Explorer challenge.

No real use today because I just got home from a short vacation to Vienna. Just putting the explorers on my desk for tomorrow, to start using them.

Day 01/30

Toilet repair. The water here is very hard and it was time for some acid to eat away the lime.

Day 1 - SAK Stack
I have mostly thinner SAK’s, I didn’t have one bigger than a Huntsman until I leered at this years damast swisschamp so much I had to get one. I liked it so much I decided to get one I could use. I got sent a cybertool M accidentally; when I told the dealer about it we decided return postage would be so much he gave it to me for less than half price. So while I wait for my new swisschamp to arrive, I’ve got these two to work with!
I had the Cybertool out working with me in the garage, I’m putting up some pvc siding. I used it to do some trimming but no pic.

Day 1 Bonus

Used up some scraps of green paracord. (Yes, near as I can tell, the color is known simply as "green.") I may order more of it sometime.

Day 1 - Disco! Disco!

A bit late post.
The day was really busy.
The TG opened a package with a new recipes book for my wife (for my use)

In the pic, The Trail Guide with a little mod in the scales. This SAK is my favorite and the most used.

The damast SwissChamp is sweet looking.  Great deal on the CT

Cool looking rings.  When I first started working with paracord, it confused me that the just “green” was more of a neon or lime green.

And we're off! Day 1, showing a leather pouch I had made by a local shoe shop for $10 so I can carry my MT horizontally. Ended up looking like a small Ray-Ban pouch

Day 1
The Rancher X opened a box, cut up some treats for Fisher, and removed the tamper seal from a bottle.  But the picture is a glamour shot because I kept forgetting to take action shots.

Thank you!

I posted this in a Jack-o-lantern thread, but it's as good a Day 0 as any. So...

(Image removed from quote.)

I have a Huntsman or two, but I'm mostly going to be using one in particular.

(Image removed from quote.)
Scales are new, the rest...isn't.

The original scales were really badly messed up, but they had a stainless steel inlaid logo. There's a fluted corkscrew, an eyeless reamer, and grooveless scissors. Added up, I think I've got it pinned down to 1981-1983. I was born in 1982, so that's pretty cool.

I carved this Jack-o-lantern with said Huntsman, scraped out the inside with my Kershaw spork, and scooped out the guts with my hands. The only other outside items were the straight pins I used to attach the floating pupils, and the Rovyvon A7 flashlight I used to light it up for the picture (I will use tea lights for actual display)..

(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)
In order: opening the top, scooped innards in the background as the eyeball carving starts, corkscrew removes eyeball cutouts, finished carving with pupils pinned in place.

(Image removed from quote.)
The final product, with a bad case of knife-head.
Those are some cool looking scales!

Day 1 - Meet the SAK

The SAK I'll be using for the Modified SAK Challenge badge is my Deluxe Explorer Plus - an Explorer I modded back in July to add pliers, Plus scales, and a few other things. If you're interested in its creation, I documented it all (with pictures!) in this thread: https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,87744.0.html

I've done a couple of challenges with other SAKs since building the Deluxe Explorer so haven't had a lot of opportunities to use it. This month seemed like the perfect chance to give it a run!

I know we're only one day in, but so far, so good everyone!

Today, Old Kid (the Huntsman) did many things. The small blade picked up the slack when the paper cutter broke. The large screwdriver popped a photocopier panel back into place (it wasn't installed correctly. It was only a cosmetic thing, but come on!) The tweezers pulled paper out of the front cover pockets on a bunch of new binders. And the reamer stabbed me heartily in the pad of my thumb.

That last one was technically my fault. I was misusing the tool while trying to disassemble a whiteboard marker.

Well, at least it's not bleeding anymore. It was pretty deep.

Fortunately, it was climbing night, so every time I had to pinch or full crimp I could remind myself of the better times: the long, long ago when I didn't have a big stab wound on the pad of my thumb.

This is how disgusting the band-aid looked after an hour of chalk and synthetic rock face.

Still a good day.

Nice one Michael, year?

1996, that one. I've got a 1983 (my BYSAK) and a 2008 on the way, so currently a '61 from each decade except the '60s and '70s... I'm concentrating on that before looking at other variants to pick up!

And great start, everyone.

Day 2 - Soldier 30

My 2008 model (2018) opened up the post today.

On the Soldier theme, it is a single blade British Army Knife - not one I've seen around often, so it was added to the collection.

It is for sure.  Actually, I feel that way about the 84mm file as well.  At least we've seen a return of the saw in recent years in the Walker.

The 84mm size is equally as useful for most of my uses as the 91mm, and it does make a noticeable difference in the pocket.
