My "Ahaah" moment, Signal Edition
on: January 01, 2022, 05:15:00 PM
Good day to all, and hoping that the New Year finds you all in good health.
As some of you may know, I received yesterday my Signal and, decided to put in use last night. It started opening cheese packages and charcuterie trays but, something was missing: a corkscrew; not wanting to use a dedicated corkscrew (having waiter's, "eared", and levered models), went and tried my Wave/Surge CS, but felt to cumbersome. I then went to my Swisstool CS Plus and took out the CS and lo and behold, it worked in the sharpener's slot and did an acceptable job! :woohoo:
So, for those not having a Flair, I present to you an alternative for an "outdoor-picniquing-Leatherman"! :tu:

Then, I got myself thinking, "how would they compare sizewise?"

Well, to my amazement, they are quite close! (and to think I thought of the Swisstool more akin to the Super Tool 300), and weightwise they feel quite close. The picture are:

1. Side by side
2. Signal on top
3. Swisstool on top
4-5. Pliers comparison

Mind you, I still find the craftsmanship, fit and finish of the Swisstool much better than any Leatherman but, it got to show me that appearances can be deceiving.

Thanks for stopping by, and a great day to all @ MT.o!

I was under the same impression, and to tell the truth, I started trying on all the handle's cutouts but then thought about the sharpener and, bingo! Guess we were both wrong!

I've handled Signals before, and didn't realize that they were actually the same size as the Swisstool.  I like the corkscrew idea Juan!

Thanks, Poncho. :hatsoff:

Thanks, Barry, and just like you, I thought it was smaller (having the same pliers head as Rebar and its modified version in the Wave, and them being smaller than the Swisstool) but, to my amazement, not only is it almost the same size, but the pliers head is slightly bigger ( like a 1cm) in the Signal. Still like them all! :tu:

Never mind; they're the same length, only thing is Signal's thinner at the tip.

That's brilliant.  Now I just have to get one of those corkscrews and a signal.

It doesn't work there for me, does work in the other cutouts though so YMMV.

I hooked the CS into the hole and the slightly forced the rounded side in; did you tried it like this? I could make and post pictures if needed.

No need for pics, tried it, isn't going anywhere. The handle cutouts work fine.

I would compare the Signal with the Spirit.
The Swiss Tool, Super Tool 300, Centre Drive etc don't really feel that close in the pocket or on the belt to me.

Gotta say I really like the Signal.
Excellent OHO blade, bottle opener and very comfortable handles.
I have a fully customized Charge, it's awesome, however I carry and use a stock Signal more.

Yes, I know; I was only comparing size and weight as I thought the Signal would've been smaller and lighter than it felt.

Yeah if you're coming from a Rebar it's a bit of a jump.

  Interesting! :tu:
Carry a Victorinox cork screw in the fold of a bi-fold wallet. Cut a slit up high and drilled in inside. Always have it with me then. :D

I'd probably carry it with the bit kit, but your idea sounds good too for when the kit isn't needed; thanks!
