New Alox Classics
on: September 14, 2021, 08:35:20 PM
Victorinox have always done well with the Classic range, recently bringing out new solid and translucent colors and some fun limited editions for 2021.

For those that remember the 2020 Pioneer X Winter Magic, you may have noticed that Victorinox used a new surfacing technique on the Alox scales.

Based on the popularity on this model, Victorinox may be bringing this type of Alox surface treatment to the Classic range. No details yet, but maybe next month...  :D

Got a sneak peek of the new Alox Classic range today...  :tu:

They look really exciting with new colors and interesting textured surface finishing, similar to a basket-weave.

Coming this month, so something to look forward to!

Little OT perhaps, but do they do minichamp runs as well? Although if they are scales I like, I’ll pop them off and put them on a minichamp.

No the MiniChamp will continue with the standard silver Alox.

The new Alox scale designs will only be on the Classic range, and it's not practical to swap the scales as they are riveted on.

Only a few days to unveiling!

Always nice to see new stuff from Victorinox

I still prefer the regular Classic SD Alox, especially in the 2021 color lineup... so many nice colors

Picked up one today. Just got the "Iconic Red" (0.6221.401G) model as a start.

The Alox texture is really exquisite. :like:  The basket weave design is done perfectly and appears to be a stamping done before anodizing. Each tiny rectangle has a curved surface, so the highlights and shadows play across the surface depending on the light angle, a little like woven carbon fibre fabric. Yet the Alox surface is still smooth, without the dimpled texture of the standard Alox that feels unpleasant to some people. With use, the weave effect should even become more pronounced as the anodizing wears away.

I really like it and I hope they consider this texture as an option for some of the larger Alox models.

I took a few pictures before putting it away - has to be a Christmas present!  :pok:

The Victorinox shield sits in a recess...

Normal Classic tool load, no T&T...

This is a very thin SAK!

Nice new packaging (all paper/cardboard)...spot varnish raised lettering, and even the basket weave texture on the sleeve is embossed!

They cost more than the yearly Alox LEs! 😱 Come on, Victorinox, what's wrong with you?

My thoughts exactly, fifty dollars in the states for a tiny Alox classic...? Victorinox used to have great quality for the price, not so much these days.
