What's going on with pictures lately?

Normally I post pictures that are 460 x 680 (or so) that can be viewed full size by clicking on them.  Last few days my photos and those of others have been showing up full size above a reduced version of the same photo. It's confusing to see the same picture twice and it's probably taking up way more bandwidth than usual.  Is it a glitch or is this the way it will remain in the future?

A resizing photo module has been implemented and Whoey is working the bugs out :salute:

We had a request for implementing a resize and post inline for attachments, it's working, but we have other things that also do some inline resize that now don't work the same. Needs time and I have a very demanding day job at the moment.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

I'm glad you're on it Whoey.  I'm sure it will be resolved. I noticed that the system has doubled up on my pictures in some old posts as well when I was revisiting a thread I last looked at in November of 2020.

On this subject, another novelty: when I clicked in the attached pics, they'd open in a new window, in a larger size. Now, I get a message asking if I want to Save or Open the pic.

I think the latter option was nicer. One click and you get the image in a new window in no time.

They still open regular for me :think:

I think one day last week it was doing that to me for a couple pics but then went back to clicking on them and opening a window as it had before ???

Could it be just some other pics, with a different attachment method?...

I'm still getting file too large on any picture that I edit prior to posting   :(

Are they below 500Kb? I awlways resize mine down, until they're below 500Kb, then I can upload them just fine.

The new module is supposed to automatically resize your pictures for you.

I have noticed if it isn't terribly large then it will resize but some pics won't  :dunno:

I went to the post in the thread about SAK emblems and when I clicked on the top picture it asked if I wanted to download but when I clicked on the second picture it opened in a new window.  My own pictures it's the top one that opens a new window and the bottom one does nothing.

I usually attach a pic and then insert the image in the post, using MTo's link. This allows me to show the pic in a bigger size, as MTo reduces attachment size.

Last time I did this, the attachment was shown in a bigger size than the image inserted in the post.

As Whoey has said. There are a few different mods that have been done with the picture attachments beside the new upgrade to resize, so until he can get the bugs worked out things will be a bit different :facepalm: Hopefully it will be sorted in the next while :salute:

Unfortunately my day job running an IT department for an entire country burns me out and I rarely get to work on any side projects these days. Most of my down time is usually spent being elsewhere as my wife is stuck at home while I am at work, so we try to visit other places on weekends etc.

The forum is hugely complex due to the number of modifications and customizations we have done over the years when I had a lot more time to put into it. Also factor in that I have probably forgotten the majority of those little customizations I have done over time... so I need to compare and ideally I would mirror a basic copy of the site and refresh a bunch of things, then roll out to the live site, that takes time... and I would rather not break things any more than they already are.

I had really hoped the next version of the software would have gone final by now, we've been waiting years for it to pass the release candidate phase... It would help eliminate a lot of the band aid fixes we implemented over the years.

Hopefully I can sort it out, as mentioned there are both mods and other tweaks that are conflicting... so maybe I can at least align them temporarily.

The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

My problem is the size or something of the pic, I just take a pic with my pad but then I have to go to my pics, tap on which ever pic, use two fingers to make it smaller, then take another pic while it’s smaller, then go to that pic and edit it, cut the rest of the page off so it’s back to just the pic..drives me nuts!

sounds like filesize is too big... if we allowed any filesize the 42000+ attached images would blow out our server storage quota many many times over...
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

My problem is the size or something of the pic, I just take a pic with my pad but then I have to go to my pics, tap on which ever pic, use two fingers to make it smaller, then take another pic while it’s smaller, then go to that pic and edit it, cut the rest of the page off so it’s back to just the pic..drives me nuts!
