All the blades!
on: October 15, 2021, 12:50:09 AM
Hi all,

I recently have become a fan of the idea of a single pocket knife that sports multiple different blades for different purposes which got me to wondering: What is the most number of unique blades you've seen on a single pocket knife?

I see most Stockman's typically have three usually a clip, spey and sheepfoot. Most Congress style knives typically have four which seem to be less rigid in their definition for the types of blades they carry but typically seem to be some combination of sheepfoot, spey, coping or pen.

So what is the make and model that you think is the king of "most bang for buck" or in this case "most blades per knife"?

Bonus points for any that are still made and somewhat available today for those of us just getting into collecting/using multi-blade knives.

Thanks in advance!

Assuming we are talking about traditional pocket knives (i.e. not counting Swiss army knives) that could actually be practical to acquire, carry, and use, it is unusual to see more than four blades.

That said, a quick search turned up five, six, and even ten-blade knives for sale on the ‘bay.  Most would be classified as congress pattern knives, but Case did some runs a while back of five-blade knives, which included a Trapper, mini-Trapper, Sowbelly, Stockman, and possibly others.

Finally, if you are looking to acquire many-bladed knives as a collecting interest, that makes as much sense as a collecting focus as anything else.  However, if you are looking for a user (again, not counting Swiss Army knives), my experience is that anything beyond three blades is just sort of extra/wasted.

:iagree:

Anymore than 3 or 4 blades isn’t really practical or needed IMO

Only(!) 3 blades, but the Rough Rider Sowbelly makes a good beater for the price, better quality than I expected, pictured below with a Remington R8 which has a serrated sheepsfoot

Rough Rider / Colt had a version with several blades, though I do not know if they are still available.

Here are my two

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies! I like the idea of collecting these many-bladed knives, for their interest even if the practical use maybe isn't there.

DKS Those two look awesome! I like that the six blades are quite different from each other. Some of the knives I've seen that have 6 or more blades tend to have a couple that are just duplicates. I'll have to keep an eye out for ones like those.

Thanks all for sharing!

I'm sure there's an old schrade stockman that includes a serrated blade.

I really like the idea of plain edge and serrated blade in the same package.

Case has released a number of knives like this over the years, including a folding hunter, half whittler, moose, trapper, large stockman, and probably others.

There’s also the Cold Steel Lucky Two, which is actually a great little knife.
