Time change weekend- check your smoke detectors!

For those of you that observe Daylight Savings Time, this is the weekend where clocks go back an hour.

For everyone, it is a good reminder to check the batteries in your smoke detectors, and, if it applies to you, clean out the dryer vent.  I'm not just talking about the lint trap, I mean everything you can reach between the lint trap and the outside vent. 

Doing these two things once or twice a year can help protect your family from losing everything- or worse.

Heck, while you are at it, why not check your fire extinguishers too!  Make sure they are charged, accessible, the right type and that everyone knows how to use them! :tu:

Definitely great tips :like: also a good time to check and change the air filter on your center heat and air unit if you have one :salute: Not life threatening I know but may help with allergies and overall health :tu: I actually try and do this every 3 months but I know that it is something people don't think about, so perhaps at least twice a year it would get done :D

I'll check the smoke detector (and the carbon monoxide detector) tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to get much of the dryer's ventilating system cleared out as well.

Well, when you live in a place where you can pretty much dry your clothes by hanging them outside (or inside, when raining) awl year long and your house is so small you can spot a fire anywhere in it from any room you're in, that's not really something you feel the need for.

I've just checked my smoke detectors! They are still in the cupboard where I put them a few years back. Good.

Kidding, sort of. I have "hard wired" smoke detectors on every floor, an extra one in my office and a CO detector near the water heater. Two extra detectors (that can be connected to my smart thermostat) are in fact still in their packaging. I will install them soon.
