My favourite pattern is the three bladed Whittler, main clip blade one end, coping and pen the other.

And, you can’t get more traditional than a Barlow.

Don't dismiss the Chinese brands to readily.  The likes of Rough Rider is well made and they are an inexpensive way of trying out a pattern to see if it's for you or not.

I do have a Rough Rider that is nice, but the Chinese made Schrade I had was not very good quality.

If just talking patterns, the stockman and trapper patterns are popular. Case is a solid brand. GEC too, for a higher price point and low run quantities.

I didn't see it mentioned here, but check out the Christy knife. There's a thread dedicated to them here on this sub. They're a manual out the front slider that locks into place at three different lengths, the longest being 1.75 inches maybe? Very cool design, and can be ordered new through the Christy Knife and Tool website.

Also, I dare you to ask CBL51 about peanuts and resolzas.

Since the Chinese productions were brought several times I thought I should mention something I forgot the last time - the Imperial brand. Now I don’t know if their other knives are good but the sodbusters are unbelievably good. And they are so cheap. Really the only thing I didn’t like about them was the angle they were sharpened at. But that is something one can redo the way they like it. Oh, and when they are fresh out the box the action is a bit gritty, some oil and few days opening and closing made it a lot smoother. Otherwise nice fit and finish, nice strong springs, pinch opening.

I do like the imperial soddies, too.  Personally better than the standard CASE.

Wow, nobody has mentioned the Canoe? Ok, then I will.
Stockman, Canoe, Sodbuster. All preferably in a Case chrome vanadium, or some other high quality carbon steel knife.

It is interesting that most have made suggestions based on the current/internet perception of traditional knives, that is, mainly US patterns and the odd Sheffield pattern.

I went with more international suggestions, but these seem to be the exception.

Adding to my original suggestions, try Laguiole, which I forgot, also Douk Douk, Mercator.. Spain has a few styles as well.

I sould seriously consider the Joseph Rodgers lambsfoot. They make them as they were made the past 400 years. You do get them in stainless but I would choose the carbon steel.
