SOG Switchplier 2.0 fix

So I bought a switchplier 2 a long time ago. Got it on sale for $50. The very first time I used it (to cut romex) it broke. The pin came out of the handle. If I squeezed very hard the pliers would jam up.

I was gonna return it, but I never did. Well today I took it apart. Here is the problem. The pin is shorter than the mechanism is wide. So when I squeeze hard the end of the pin would pop out of the slot it’s supposed to be in.

The stock pin is just under 12mm long and 3mm in diameter. The outer housing (the gunmetal part) is just over 13mm wide on the inside. So I made a new longer pin. I didn’t have any 3mm stainless rod, but I did have 5mm which I turned down in my lathe. Using 3mm would be a lot easier and completely doable with basic hand tools.

The photo below shows just how much extra space there is. The new pin is exactly as long as that is wide.

It’s actually really annoying to reassemble the switch plier but I got it together and... now no matter how hard I bear down, the pliers are rock solid.
