Dating for Inoxyd knife
on: November 23, 2021, 10:21:43 PM
Hello everybody,

I wonder how old that knife is and how much it is worth.
Unfortunately, I have no information other than these pictures.
- Is this a 84mm or a 91mm knife, based on the proportions on the pictures?
- Is the tool configuration for that age and knife size rare or quite common?
- I've found the ESSM/I tang stamp on sakwiki.com only for 91mm knives. Does the same year of production - 1947 - also hold for this knife?
- What would you pay for that knife, assuming an average condition?

Edit: Sorry for the huge and repeating pics, but this seems to be a bug in the board software.

Thanks & kind regards,
qwerty

It's tough to guess the frame size based on the photos. Based on your lack of information and your uncertainty about its size, I'm assuming its for sale somewhere or you'd like a similar one. If the former, could you provide a link? Sorry I couldn't be of more help; most of your questions are better answered by people with more knowledge of older SAKs than me.

Thanks for posting the link. As my German is only so-so, I couldn't get much out of the description. The photos showed a blade that looks to have been roughly sharpened. I'm not sure I'd part with 85 CHF (about (91 USD) for it without doing more research.

Due to my own research, its either a 248 or a 248k from the 1940s.
I guess that the Vic service can restore and polish the blades.
But I'm still not sure if it's worth 85 CHF, since I don't know how many 248/248k with that specific tang stamp are out there.
