Another badge that I have thought about trying to acquire. Farmer X's thread goaded me into make an attempt.

I was going to use a magnesium bar that I had bought from Northern Tools some months ago, but I have misplaced it  :D
Plan B was to use steel wool and a battery, but I only had stainless steel wool and I did not think that would work.
Then, I remembered that one of my Chinese MTs came with a ferro rod. Ignition source solved  :tu:


I created a nest using dried weeds and added some fat wood shavings. I assembled some twigs and dried leaves in a fire pit and attempted to create 🔥
(I found that the spine of the PST knife blade did not have a sharp enough edge to scrape shavings from the ferro rod, so I used the can opener.)

No luck! The magnesium shavings kept falling through the nest before they could ignite anything. Before cheating by using lighter fluid, I decided to create a lot of very fine fat wood shavings by scraping my PST blade back and forth over the fat wood. I sprinkled these shavings over the nest, hoping that they would catch some magnesium shavings and ignite.
