A few unknown Wengers - Wiki help needed please
on: June 20, 2019, 03:53:13 AM
Hi Wenger Knights,

Ivo just posted a 130mm badge request with a few models that we do not seem to have in the Wiki
https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,81869.msg1950986.html#msg1950986

These are the ones I believe we do not have:
1 Ranger 1.77.02
2 Ranger 1.77.06
7 Rangergrip 45
8 Rangergrip 48

Ivo can you or anyone else please help to identify the model details - ie Tools / 130vs120 / variation of another model etc etc  etc

Also another one has popped up on Facebook and Ebay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-WENGER-SWISS-ARMY-85MM-ORIGINAL-MONARCH-MULTI-TOOL-POCKET-KNIFE-TSA/163231451756?fbclid=IwAR2Km-AkilSN-8ujfQUQzrCh0aKalUwe4qAeRMYloL15GHHAg9yoy3SCMmo

For sure it is a six-layer model - And not in the Wiki
The listing says it is a Monarch (7 layers according to SAKWiki) - But and early version before they added the mag glass.
Is this true ?    ???
It seems like the Wiki will never be complete - Even for the older models - Never mind new editions

Thanks team     :tu:

The Ranger 120 are all shown on this catalog (Europe 2007) which I uploaded some time ago
https://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-download_file.php?fileId=12

The two Rangerrgips models appear to be Rangergrip 61.821.x (the red one, already listed on sakwiki under the Ranger 61 page) and Rangergrip 179.823.X (the green one, already listed on sakwiki under the Ranger 55 page)

The "Monarch" is model 1.22.03, quite common

RANGERGRIP 45
To unlock the open blade you have to press the Wenger logo.

This is the name an number in the 2010 Wenger Catalog:

RangerGrip 61.821.X
1.077.061.821.X

So it is a RangerGrip 61
Rangergrip 45-1.jpg

Rangergrip 45-2.jpg
* Rangergrip 45-2.jpg (Filesize: 188.61 KB)

* Rangergrip 45-3.jpg (Filesize: 190.95 KB)

RANGERGRIP 48
To unlock the open blade you have to press the Wenger logo.

This is the name and number in the 2010 Wenger Catalog:
RangerGrip 179.823.X
1.077.179.823.X

So it is a RangerGrip 179

Next week I will have also a WENGER Everest 1.77.04  :hatsoff:

The 1.77.06 is also called Mountaineer.

According the WENGER 2010 Ranger catalog there are 3 red versions and 2 green.

I found another mystery in my collection (sorry it is not cleaned yet).
I can't find it in all available catalogs.
It is a 7-layer and there is no chain on it , it is not broken off, there is no room for a chain.

A thought of me:
I think that some versions are not listed in the catalogs because they are especially made for companies that request for a special knife. I can see that there was a logo on this knife "FBC".

Wow - Not only did I hear from a Wenger Knight ....
.... I heard from the King of Wenger - All hail to thee, my Lord Basilo

Thanks for your detailed replies and pictures lads - really appreciate your efforts
On the pictures - Can we use them in the Wiki please ?   ???

So to summarise - Items 1&2 are 120mm Rangers which we already have in the Wiki - Cool
Note the Wiki search for  1.77.02 does not work  - I think it cannot cope with the full stops - But the Google search finds it - So that is good

Items 7&8 are 130mm Rangers which we also have in the Wiki - Cool
Ivo - Where did the 45, 48 naming come from - Should we be adding this as a reference to the Wiki?

I'll check all the pages and maybe add some of these photos / identifiers if necessary or if it enhances the page.

The Ebay 'Monarch' model is 1.22.03 - There is an entry in the 6 layer table for this - But no associated Wiki page - So I can add that !!

The other model you showed Ivo - Post 8
Shall we add this to the Wiki as a variation of the Monarch - But with a corkscrew - Not screwdriver
And/or a variation of the Colonel/Oberst/Backpacker with a nail-file not clip-point    (this is a strange co-incidence - Hey Basilo!! ??  ;)    :o   )

These (it seems) infinite and minute SAK model variations are all a bit frustrating!!

Re the Ranger catalogue pages - We already have those in the Wiki ........ here ......  So that's good   :tu:

Hi,
Wenger did produce many models with or without keychain.
In the 1995 catalog you can see both references.
Look at this picture.

The number on top (black) is for the keychain model, the one on bottom (red arrow) without it.
Your knife is model 1.25.02

Anything I post can you use in SAKWiki Huntsman.
I believe that the numbers 45 and 48 came from the seller , I should know better and checked it before I post it. No do not add these numbers.

If mine is a Monarch than it is an older one (7 layer) the fish scaler is an older one than in you picture.

Hello,
no, the Rockies has the small blade instead of the nail file, lock on main blade, markings of the main blade, imprint on front scale.
I just sold it to Huntsman

It became a obsession for me to get every version of the Wenger Ranger 130 that was listed in the catalogue. Stressful times indeed. It put me off collecting in future.

This was taken in 2016
I continued to collect the Rangers for a year or so after, adding a further dozen or so. Don’t have a final group shot - but it’s on my To Do List

These few were added a few months later.
Sorry for the poor pics, as I say I fully intended to do a mini feature on my Rangers but life always seems to get in the way.

Slight exaggeration there Huntsman - lol
There are some serious big hitters on here now  :hatsoff:
Trying to work out what else I have in the Ranger line up….

Squadron watch (1 Ranger)
United Woods collection (2 Rangers)
The pair of Alinghi Rescue Rangers
Plus several models with the pocket clip
Plus a further 9 of the old 120 Rangers

I’m almost certain there’s others but I can’t remember.
