Maybe we can invite him to join some challenge?

I believe NASA issued the 91mm Master Craftsman to the astronauts.

 https://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Master+Craftsman

I assume that’s the model shown aboard the station in that photo. Since it appears to be tethered to the bulkhead, I’m guessing that it’s part of the station’s equipment, and it might still be up there now.

On a related note, I saw one of the current ISS crew members wearing a Leatherman sheath on his belt  in a recent video.
Current SAKs: Explorer, SwissChamp, Handyman (modded), Climber, Super Tinker, Tinker, Woodsman (modded), Electrician, Pioneer, SwissTool, Executive, Ambassador, Champion Plus
Current Leatherman tools: PST, Original Wave, Wave, Wave+, Blast, Bond, Curl, Style PS, Micra

That would be cool.  My guess is that the SAK is four layers (low confidence) and that it has a patch of velcro on the scale.  I tried my best to enhance the photo...

I believe NASA issued the 91mm Master Craftsman

But it is discontinued model (of course they can keep some valuable old stock in their hangars!) And I am not sure it is a NASA mission…

I tried to do some further research and found out he he is already experienced space SAK user. I did not hear this story before:

See paragraph How exactly does one break into a space station with a Swiss Army Knife?
In the middle of the page

On one of the knife forums I use, a while back there was a link to a 3D tour of the ISS. There are over a dozen SAKs and Leatherman on the ISS. Can't find that link again  :(
It was a really neat 3D tour that was viewer mouse controlled.

EDIT: Found link

Don't get space sick using it  :D

I just went on a brief tour of the ISS. Thanks for that link!

As far as looking for SAKs during the tour, the ISS is like one of those "I-Spy" or "Where's Waldo" books. Every square inch of interior surface is covered with equipment, wires, cables, etc.

I spotted two SAKs, both large 91mm models, both with Philips screwdrivers (meaning they aren't SwissChamps). I'm guessing Craftsman models. Interestingly, both of them were located at what appear to be "kitchen counters", for lack of a better term. I guess they use the SAKs to open food packages.

There's also about half a million blue Mini Maglites attached to the station walls.

Also note the multitool on the table in the first picture.

I think the SAK in the image you posted stays aboard the station, since I found it attached to the same meal-prep area. I'm guessing that particular SAK went up to the station before the model was discontinued, and has been up there ever since.

Well there’s only one it can possibly be..
The Victorinox Parachutist incase they need to bail out!!
Surely that’s logical thinking

Excelent SAK eye!
Thank you! It was quite an adventure to look for SAKs aboard the ISS. I kept zooming in on every bit of red that I saw, but most turned out to be bits of station equipment. I realized I had to be more strategic, and so I looked for the area that matched the background in your photos of Chris Hadfield. And there it was!

It sounds like you had good time with the search!

I find it really exciting that they use in the space station tools you can get in every sport shop. It tells a lot how great tool the SAK is. And everyone can easily have one! And should have. World would be a better place with SAK in every pocket!  :)

Good eye, hsherzfeld.  I got seriously lost in the space station.  Saw zero SAKs,  but I did see a pair of Knipex pliers.  :tu:
