Funny lighter I just received
on: January 25, 2009, 01:29:40 AM
I saw this and just thought it was kind of funny. It works too.  It's an old Scripto-Vu lighter, which are no longer made. Kind of a shame as they held lots of fluid and didn't dry out very fast. I'm guessing they were discontinued because they are not particularly re-buildable.

I've never seen one of those lighters...is that thing on the right (back) of it where you fill it?

These guys are all over E-Bay, I got this one for $12.99 plus $1.76 shipped.

Nope. There's a small screw on the bottom you remove to fill with lighter fluid. That button on the right side is a little primer button. Say you haven't used your lighter for a little while. Simply turn the lighter upside down, push that button a few times and your wick now has fluid in it. It works by kind of mashing the wick back and forth a little so it soaks up some fluid.

Just clear plastic is all. The metal parts are plated brass I believe.

I think there were two sizes made, this one is a smaller one, but plenty big enough. Maybe 2/3 to 3/4 the size of a Zippo. They have all sorts of advertising things in these guys ..... bowlers, little dice, train pictures, bird hunters, beer breweries, cigarette makers, fly fishing hooks, lots of different themes.

There's even one on E-Bay right now with some guys name (George Kuhlmann) and his business ........ Fire Fighting Equipment. LOL! Now that's funny!

Kinda clever if you think about it. A fire fighting equipment dealer passing out free lighters.......it might help to create more business for him. :D

Here it is.

Man that cracks me up! But I wouldn't get this one as a "user" as it looks like the igniter/wick assembly may be boogered up. Could be the flint holder just needs to be pushed down. Anyway ..... it's still funny to me.

Tripping down memory lane here! Those were fairly ubiquitous back in the '60s,competing almost head to head with Zippo.
