New Year, New Badge challenge!
on: December 28, 2021, 10:13:15 PM
I've said before, and I'll say again: the challenges are one of my favorite parts of this forum. So I'm starting another. Apologies for the short notice, but it is much like the challenge that ran in November of 2021. The rules are simple:

1. Determine which badge you'd like to earn. For the benefit of new members who may be unaware of what's available, a list can be found starting at the below link and going on to page 8. There is also a Farmer X challenge, but that's within the "site" category.

https://forum.multitool.org/index.php?action=profile;area=listAwards;start=60

2. Copy and paste the list of participants and add your user name and chosen challenge to it.

3. Post a photo, ideally of the SAK in use, for 30 days.

4. Use just one SAK or all you have that fit within your chosen challenge.

5. If you have to use another multi-tool, explain why (i.e. "needed pliers" or "needed a wood saw").

6. Have fun!

With that said, I'm in.

And let me start it off with my first submission:

Day 1

My tool of choice for the Minimalist SAK challenge is the alox Bantam, here cutting bread which I baked as part of our family tradition for New Year's Day.- the bread turned out very well and the Bantam as well handled the task with ease.

Great looking bread and Bantam
Thanks, I used my favourite recipe from Jim Lahey's book My bread - really excelent and easy, no-knead method, highly recommended to anyone who would like to try to make own bread. Only flour, salt, dry yeast, water and (ideally) cast iron pot is required (+ some time planning - the dough requires 12-18 hours to raise).

The Bantam is a favorite of mine, and that bread looks really tasty. Feel free to use any other minimal SAKs you have, too!

I'm up to participate at my first challenge !
Sweet! Good to have you aboard.

Day 1

I was going to take a photo of with my breakfast...until Tommy hopped up on the bed while I was getting dressed. I figured I'd get his opinion of the Bantam that was in my pocket. He says, "ah, it's okay."

Day 2

no significant SAK activity today so only sharing how I carry my Bantam.

I usually pair it with Rambler (which is on my keychain) and the Bantam is in my 5th pocket. I really appreacite the slimness and lightness but still very solid feel of the Bantam, the only shortcoming is no keyring (I am very much in the keyring camp)  - I always found it cumbersome to retrieve it from the coin pocket without any lanyard so I made a little sheath from a piece of soft scrap leather with attached lanyard. It works fine, I like the tactile feeling of the leather and alox.

Before I made the sheath I even tried to carry a Cadet (to get the keyring) but compared to the Bantam the Cadet felt like a brick in the  coin pocket ( :D) with limited additional fucntinality so I sold it and came up with this solution.

Great pics awl!

Day 2 Huntsman

18f outside today so other than removing the mittens and cutting some bale twine, not much SAK action. I did cut the safety seal off a fresh jar of peanut butter at lunchtime.

Good looking loaf z1913!!  :like:

Interesting how peoples tastes differ. I love everything about my little red Bantam, except that it "had" a keyring. Our different views is what make like interesting though!!

Nice photos, y'awl! This is already shaping up to be a great challenge.

Day 2

The Bantam got called up for box opening duty today. Somehow I failed to notice that a little tape stayed behind. It also did a "combo vs. separate openers" pose with a Pioneer.

Day 2 - Minimal SAK Challenge

No uses today.
But at least I found my olivewood Opinel N06.
It was lost for months and I was very upset. But today, sorting some clothes for donation, I found my Opinel bellow some winter clothes.
Well... I can't be happier!

Day 3 - Minimal SAK

Back to the office after the christmas break. One opened package and one stubborn key removed from the keyboard with the combo tool.

I am very satisfied with the combo tool - usualy more than adequate for the what if situations, I do not feel the need for full opener layer in the urban setting.

2/30

Day 2 started of interestingly.

Today was my first day back to work for 2022. So I got up at 4 am, drove though rain and high winds and pulled into an empty parking lot at 5:45. Turns out the plant was closed and nobody told me. Oh well,,, back home I go for a bonus day off. Five minutes after getting back home my wife calls and says she has just driven through a downed tree and there is damage to her new car. Back in the truck and get her taken care of. No major damage to car, just need to replace a mirror and buff out some scratches. Back home again and decided today is going to be a amateur radio day. Made a few contacts on 10 meters, then decided to dig out an old antenna project I started a while back. I'm experimenting with an extension cord to make a dipole radio antenna. Used the Bantam to trim a couple of notches in an orange juice cap. I will fill the cap with clear silicone which will seal everything and keep the connections waterproof.
