Day 5 - Minimal SAK Challenge

Today the Compact was used to stripe some wires and assembly a new conector to a small lamp in the baby girl bedroom.

Day 6 - Minimal SAK

Second day with the Baker's knife. I am very impressed with the look of the knife - it's like a jewelry. So shiny, with high-end feel and very re-assuring snap.
Still surprised how anyone could have come up with such a strange design and from where need for such specialized tool arose.

Mine sits most of the time in the kitchen drawer in its plastic pouch, quietly awaiting the seldom moments of glory to score a dough. But I am glad it is there!

Per SAKWiki, this is the thinnest Victorinox knife - 4,83mm. I am attaching side by side photo with Waiter. How chunky the modest (size-wise) Waiter looks!

I tried to use the knife for all cutting tasks at home today. I think I proved the obvious - it is not ideal for cleaning and cutting vegetables to prepare a meal thanks to the curved serrated blade (it is almost antithesis to chef's knife), but it's single sided bevel is wickedly sharp!

Snow plowing most of the day today. I did use the small blade to cut some bale twine doing chores. Took a break this afternoon and butchered an apple for a quick snack.

Day 7 - Minimal SAK

Today I experimented how to carry the knife. MTO members in other threads mention from time to time that they carry the slim SAKs in their wallets.

I tried that with the Baker's knife and it fit perfectly into the inner pocket, next to ID and driving licence. On the other hand, Bantam was too wide to fit there.

Oh yeah,, that was a very interesting series, I enjoyed it.

Day 8 - Minimal SAK

Final day with the Baker's knife. No action for it today.

Actually I had a SAK task but could not use this one for it. I went grocery shopping and when I put a coin into the shopping cart, the thing did not release it. The Bakers knife was of no use there - I used the spatula thing from minichamp on my keychain to further push on the coin and released the cart (sorry - I did not took a picture, there was a line of other customers, so no good time for SAK in action pictures).

I think this very well illustrate the Baker's knife - beatiful, specialized tool, but not practical for anything outside its intended purpose so I will put it again for the bread scoring service in the kitchen. Final picture of the special blade.

I have been known to partake in that cider from time to time.
It is a great beverage for the cold days we're presently having in Michigan.

Took a pic when I arrived home after work.
Nice picture. The shadows look really cool.

There's a certain appeal with the more specialized SAKs. If I ever find one of the baker's knives, I'll pick it up.

Minimal SAK Challenge Day 8

Upon rising this morning, I was told that the washing machine and chest freezer were OOC. The WWP Tinker helped rectify the situation. Hopefully the second photo shows the problem pretty well.

Day 9 - Minimal SAK

I switched today to another specialized SAK - Floral knife which proved to be very versatile and helpful.

My project for today was to improve my sharpening station. In the past, I normally used just a tea towel on which I put a stand with a whetstone, but it was not very stable and the water around and general mess usually sparked some unsolicited comments from Mrs Z...

So I took a lid from one IKEA box, on the bottom attached pieces of a non-slip mat  with double sided tape and voila - new sharpening station is ready. As well, I used for the first time new whetstone I got for Christmas - Suehiro Cerax 1000. It worked very well, I sharpened all of our kitchen knives (no SAK sharpening today).

The floral knife was used to cut the non-slip mat and helped to remove the cover from the double tape - the pointed tip of the knife was very good for the task.

Great pics, y'awl!  worthy food and a great idea for securing a sharpening stone (I'll have to try that one). And Hevy, I hope you didn't have to make a new cable...

Minimal SAK Challenge Day 9

This set is missing the piece that goes on top of the band selector switch. Moving it with my thumb or forefinger can be done, but it's a pain. The Bantam's awlsome combo tool makes it much easier.

It's an older set, and horrible at pulling in shortwave signals at home (but I live in an area that makes good shortwave reception impossible without an external antenna). I got it and another shortwave set for just $15. Below is one that cost me considerably more...

The Compact sliced these two apples today.
Looks pretty good! I don't guess you're making apple pie?

Minimal SAK Challenge Day 9 Bonus

The two minimal SAKs currently in my pockets are posing with my really good shortwave set, a CCrane SkyWave SSB.
