111mm scales differences?
on: January 13, 2022, 09:46:33 AM
Hi all,
I've got two 111mm in front of me: Hunter XT and Soldier 08.

It seems that the scales from the hunter XT sound "hollow" when I "tap" on them... But the scales from the soldier sound different, more robust.

Is there any difference across the dual density scales colors/model?

Thanks !

Could you try popping them off?   ???

Not sure how well that works for the DD scales?
No guarantees if you ruin them.......

I was told on a FB group that the Hunter has hollows scales in order to have a better grip compared to other handles... I remain doubtful.

(and I don't particularly want to open my knives to check...  :D I imagined that some people would have done it already)

Based on pictures I've seen of both types of 111mm scales, they are all hollow.  They are different materials and shape (the DD being flatter) so that probably accounts for the different sound.

EDIT: Someone just swapped scales here https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,88739.0.html, no photos of the back side, but you could ask.
