Tape measure keychain from Muji
on: January 03, 2022, 09:02:53 AM
I’m not an interior designer nor a tradesman but what I am is a husband (house-band lol)…..and believe me there have been LOTS of occasions when my loving wife would ask ‘will that fit in xxx of the house?’  Or ‘will this fit in that?’  And she looks at me as if I can visually measure stuff like an iPhone’s camera ruler function.

The solution? Nope, not the iPhone but rather this small 40mm (4cm) tape measure.  It measures in metric only.  It’s retractable.  I also added a clip to it so I can attach it to my (ever expanding) keychain, along with a pen light and a Micra.

We haven’t had time to field test it but it’s great to carry something small as opposed to a ‘normal sized’ metal tape measure.

:tu:  My partner asked me if I had a tape one day while out.  I didn't and actually never carried one other than in my vehicle.  If I was going into a store where I knew I'd need to measure something I'd bring it in but carry it, never crossed my mind.  One day while at the flea market she has a small metal tape in her hand ready to purchase.  It fit perfectly in her purse so she got it.  Its come in handy so many times for her and admittedly me.

I used to carry a tailor’s tape too. Held together by masking tape lol. This is a lot better.

The funny part is it’s now with my MT’s instead of being on my keychain! Might end up getting another one!

CountyComm?
I ordered one.  The pouch alone was worth the price.

I have used both of these along with some other Stanley ones that were keychain size but were made to look like tires. I also found a modern Stanley one that is 6 feet. The redone comes in a verity of colours and is a flexible nylon that allows you to measure irregular shape but not very good if you need a standout.

I've tried a whole bunch of keychain tape measures.  I find the plastic ones too delicate for keychain carry, and the metal ones too large and heavy, not to mention ugly.  Until I found the Ti-Tape Titanium Tape Measure by TEC Accessories.  It's expensive, but worth it.  Really, really small and light, but very high quality, with both imperial and metric measurements.  They even sell a replacement tape for a few bucks and it's user replaceable.  Really highly recommended.
