Watch out for a scammer (possible)
on: February 15, 2023, 01:07:48 AM
I received an odd message from a Julia Brown from Leatherman Canada. I know that when Leatherman contacts you, it usually has their business logo and colour scheme in place. Something didn't seem right and it was odd that I was approached on my flickr account. I called Leatherman and they were very interested in who this was and wanted me to send this info to them and told me to not proceed as Julia Brown is not someone they know. It is weird enough that I thought I might warn others on here about it, especially as MT.O was mentioned.

Hi Chako1000!

juliapbrown has sent you a message on Flickr.
Subject: Partnership with Leatherman Canada
Date: February 14th, 2023

Hello Chako!

I am part of the marketing team with Leatherman Canada and was hoping to chat with you about partnering for an upcoming project.

We’ve been following your extensive Leatherman collection here and on Multitool.org, and we’re impressed! We’re honoured to be part of your toolset and to have you as a loyal fan.

We are looking to start a series about Leatherman Collectors on our social media channels, and think our followers would be very interested in hearing your story and seeing all the unique Leatherman pieces you’ve gathered over the years.

If interested, please send your email address so we can send you more details. You will be compensated for your participation!

Let us know if you are in!
Julia (Leatherman Canada)

Check the sender’s email address. If it’s something .Gmail or yahoo or hotmail, it’s most likely a scam.

I called Leatherman to confirm. I didn't see anywhere where I could take a look at their email. Not sure if there is a way via flickr to be honest. There was only a reply button visible. I forwarded the msg to Leatherman and took a screen shot and sent that also to them.

Agreed. When I read about the compensation...I thought of the hook being set on a fish lol. I figured a quick call to Leatherman might sort things out.

That’s the most well written scam Email ever.

Most of the scams I see are written by a five years old.

Go figure. I wonder why Leatherman told me it was one. The left hand not knowing what the right is doing?
