Items used
- Stock Leatherman Signal. Mine is about 5 years old and didn’t mind foregoing the warranty.
- Leatherman Wingman Scissors, including it’s spring. Mine was left over parts from my Single Sided Wingman Mod.
Tools used
- Table top vice
- Two Torx 10 drivers
- Dremel + grinder stones
1. Clamped the Signal in the vice and used two Torx 10s to remove the saw. The through axel nut, bolt and brass washer was re-used.
2. Checked if the Winglman Scissors will drop into the through axel nut. Mine did not, and used the Dremel to enlarge the hole in the scissors to fit without any play. Did a little at a time and checking along the way before going too far. Used the through axel nut to check.
3. Compared the Scissor locking pivot profile with the saw and had to grind off a little bit off the locking tab so it locked in place solidly. Again, did it a little at a time and checking along the way before going too far. Installed the scissors temporarily to check.
4. Installed the scissor and scissor spring. The brass washer went in between the frame and the scissors just like how it was with the saw. Had to make sure the scissor spring pins mated with the scissors correctly to engage when opened.
5. Tightened the bolt adequately and adjusted so that the scissors slid in and out of the frame easily.
Very happy with the results and a very useful mod for me having to help my kid with her school work. Thanks MTO for showing me the way.
