Camp Stove in “Altoids” tin

After contemplating making an Altoids (in my case a Newman’s Mint) tin into a little emergency stove for a while, I’ve finally did it.

I saw a video on that showed one based off the mini folding twig stove design and liked it better than ones I’ve seen using screws.

Mine is a really rough design, because I didn’t make a template and outlines first.  I made it using tin snips, SwissTool Spirit and a panel from a folding windscreen for a stove.  I tried it last night using some small twigs (no pictures).  It worked, but didn’t hold the pot very level, so today I did a little more modding.  I then tried it out with a mini alcohol stove I have and it was still not great but better. 

The stove sides fit in the tin with some extra space.  I put the mini alcohol stove in the tin with it.  It fit but was a little tight so I used some bicycle inner tub to hold the lid shut.  There is still some space for some small fire starting items.

I wanted to try it if for no other reason than to see if I could and it would work.  Now I can see myself fiddling around in an effort to improve or do better,  i already have some ideas in my head.

Ultimately, I think a small hobo style can stove would probably be better.

I may have to do one of those too just to see.
