This challenge sounds interesting. I doubt I have been without a pair of scissors now for decades.

I think I might have a Spartan about the house. I am going to look when I get off work and see.

If so I'm in.

If not I'll try and find one on fleabay or maybe purchase a new one. Can't remember last time I had an unused SAK in my pocket

So go ahead and count me in on the fun.

Great to see so much interest Barry. Well done for lighting the touch paper on a Spartan challenge. Be good to see how creative we can be with "the pocket knife that started it all" as Vic say

I checked and did find a lone Spartan about in the ever growing sea of red. But I was thinking that I haven't purchased a brand new Victorinox in 30 years and have found most of my Victorinox fun through fleabay.

As the price of a brand new Spartan is not too bad, I might just start this Challenge with a new addition.

Will keep you posted

This is my first post in these forums but I would like to participate in the challenge. I love the Spartan! Are Tourists OK too? I love the 84mm version.

Any other rules I should be aware of? Can I also carry my Rambler like I always do?

Day 1

Kicking things off a couple days early, fresh off the four layer challenge. After carrying a Champion/SwissChamp for 2 months earlier this year, it'll be fun to see how things are all the way at the other end of the spectrum.

I'm a little concerned about not having scissors (although I usually have an Executive or a Rambler on my keychain.)  I'm debating how to handle it. Keeping a track for times I missed them? Trying to make it work with the blade? We'll see.

My main carry for the month will be this Spartan. Late 80s, based on the tang stamp, grooved cork screw, and lack of pin hole on the (original) scales. Back scale was replaced, so it does have a pin scale now. Added a purple round headed pin. Easier to pull out, and adds a pop of color. Corkscrew fits it fine, unlike the Phillip's. One more reason corkscrew is the better backside choice.

This knife had a big role in kicking off SAK collecting for me a little over a year ago. I'd owned a half dozen or so before (mostly Classics, but one Hiker), but I bought this as a companion to a pair of Tinkers for my wife and stepdaughter when we started camping. It served me well for a couple months, I bought a Fieldmaster, and it's been all downhill from there.

I must be doing a minimalist challenge all the time then!

I never carry a SAK thicker than 3 layers in my pocket. And for all of 2021 I carried a Tourist and Rambler combo every day for the entire year.

Earlier this year I picked up a Super Tinker and it’s a great pocket carry, but about as large as I want to go. But I got excited and have already started the Spartan challenge a few days early!

Larger SAKs are backpack/desk drawer/toolbox items for me.

I love the larger SAKs, but there's something about the Spartan that keeps me coming back for more.

Well done BPR for kicking us off early.  I'm tempted to start but I want to get some Climber time in first.  But for a warm up I carried my Silvertech for Spartan Saturday.

Day 3

Reached for the Spartan today to try to fiddle a switch with the can opener, and realized it wasn't in my pocket. This thing is so thin, I didn't even realize it was still in yesterday's shorts, or missing from today's, until I reached for it. Fortunately, we all survived. Tweezers and pin used for some nail cleaning (no pics). I decided to do a pocket dump when I went back to the room to grab it. Also took a comp pic with the Huntsman I had been carrying.

Nice pen too BPR  :salute:

Thanks! In my opinion, TWISBI offers about the best value for money for an affordable user fountain pen. Cheap enough that it doesn't break my heart (or wallet) if something happens to one, and perform well enough that I enjoy using them.
