Favorite Four Layer Challenge June 2022

Not too big and not too small, the four layers are just right.  :D  Carry your Fieldmaster, Huntsman, Pioneer X, Explorer, or throw badges to the wind with one of the others, or use an assortment just for the joy of the four layer SAK!

Normal challenge rules apply, void where prohibited.

1.  Fireman
Merit Badges Participate in a Challenge thread and post a photo of a tool made in a specific country for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Alox SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate in a Challenge thread and post a photo  of 84 and 85 mm Swiss Army Knives (and Wengers) for 30 days Participate and post a pic of your vintage SAK (1986 or earlier) everyday for 30 days. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Buck 112 Ranger for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate in a challenge by carrying  a Leatherman Pulse or ST200 and post a photo of it  for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread or Post in a Challenge Thread and post a photo of a Spartan  for 30 days Start a new thread and post a photo of the 110 knife for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the discontinued sak/mt for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate in a challenge by carrying  a Combo Edged knife or Multitool and post a photo of it  for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the multitool for thirty (30) consecutive days.  Carry tools with single functions only. No multi-tools, no multi-layer Swiss Army Knives, no combo one-piece tools and post a photo for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of an Executive or Director for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in a Challenge thread and post a photo of a LM Pocket Survival Tool for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Delemont SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Woohoo!!!  My very first challenge. I’m totally up for this. Thinking that I’ll probably use the FX, since I’m on such an alox kick right now. But I also feel a strong pull toward my custom yellow Explorer. But there’s also that Huntsman I modded with homemade Micarta scales. Decision. Decisions. Decisions.

So we can swap from day to day, so long as it's a four-layer?

That option has cool possibilities. Allows a person to try maybe a different knife each for a week, and then make comparisons to how well suited they were. Or a dedicated work week knife, and a different weekend model.

I've looked through quite a few threads, but the rules vary quite a bit, with some even permitting swapping out...

I thought the "void where prohibited" made it clear that that part was in jest.  If you want rules, here's the rules:

1-Post a pic of a 4 layer SAK, preferably in use, every day for 30 days.
2-If you use the same 4 layer SAK every day, and there is a badge, you can apply for the badge at the end.
3-If you don't need no stinking badges, use as many different 4 layer SAKs as you own or can afford to buy. 
4-Most importantly, have fun!

I’ve been away from the forum for a few years now, How exactly does one find out if a badge is available for a certain knife?

A shiny badge (or even a tiny icon) could definitely persuade me to use just the FX.

There is a Farmer X badge.  :tu:

I looked through the list of available awards and found these four layer SAKs.  To get the badge, you have to use just one model for the 30 days.
-Huntsman
-Fieldmaster
-Explorer
Farmer X

If you have a modded  or discontinued 4 layer, you could get the modded or discontinued badge.

There is no specific badge for this challenge, for the Deluxe Tinker, Angler, Fisherman, etc.  Badges have been designed for specific challenges, but from the ones I've participated in, they require a certain number of people as well as someone doing the work to design it.  I have not asked a moderator about any of that. 
Merit Badges Participate in a Challenge thread and post a photo of a tool made in a specific country for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Alox SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. This is excellent news. I did a dry run today, carrying just my silver FX. I’ve really enjoyed my recent Farmer/MiniChamp combo, but just the FX was so much simpler. A month with the FX will be a snap.

I thought it was generally understood that the challenge tool(s) were to be used exclusively, to the greatest extent legal and practical?

I think I’m going with the FX for the full month. After a few days of carrying the FX, I’m really digging it. I mean, it’s a Farmer, so it’s already awesome. But having that big pair of scissors is just over the top awesome. It’s definitely a dense knife, but it still feels good in the hand, and the weight really isn’t so bad.

I’m even liking the silver alox this time around. I’ve always yawned at the silver in the past, but I’m strangely okay with it now. I guess I’m starting to associate silver as being my official Farmer X color. So no need to pull out one of my more exotic variations for this challenge. Classy silver with red logo is working for me, and I think it looks cool with the spruce colored fob.

The Farmer X is a great choice (not that I'm biased or anything), and the spruce green fob looks great. Mine currently has an FS Navy fob.

Right, but when the originator simply said “normal challenge rules apply”, it prompted some discussion of what exactly that entailed.
