I couldn't help myself
on: January 04, 2022, 04:54:18 PM

I saw this on AliExpress, and well, you know....

I justified the purchase as being a test to see if I could successfully buy stuff from AliExpress

Is it a success because you completed the order, or is it only going to be a success when (if) it arrives sometime in the next 2 months? ::)

A success if it arrives, which it probably will.

It is basically one handle of this MT:

The pocket knife leaves out the subpar items of the MT, though it would be nice to have the awl included.

I received it yesterday, a week or two earlier than I expected.

I didn't realize that it has a glass breaker at the end where the plier head would go:

This definitely one handle of a MT. You can see the spring and a rest for the plier head in these two pics:

I don't need a glass breaker, so I am going to see about increasing the tool density.

Now I'm thinking about buying cheap MTs just to steal the pocket clips off them...

I worked on it some this weekend:

I added a Surge can/bottle opener, a Rev file, a Rev package opener, a Rev Phillips that I grounded into an awl, and a straight driver whose origin I don't remember.

Which tools were closest to the multitool's pivot size and shape (and therefore required the least modification to fit)?

From what I've done, the Wingman tools have a slightly larger pivot, but they locked properly in the other one.

Yes, the Rev/Wingman/etc... tools work without modification on the end with the lock. However, I did have to enlarge the pivot hole for those tools installed on the plier head end by 1/64". The Surge can opener pivot hole was large enough, but I did have to remove some metal so that it could rotate against the plier backspring.

Edit:
I did need to slightly enlarge the notch on the Rev Phillips that I converted to an awl so that it would engage the lock better.

I just got one of these from Amazon, but it was under the brand name Sunbird. Just my first impression, but I am impressed! I also have the rest of the tool type that this tool originated from! It definitely is the one side of a plier-based tool found under various brand names online.  I also own a Gerber Armbar. I like that tool, but the driver does not lock and if you put too much pressure on it, it will fold. Why is it that an off-brand manufacturer like this make a tool like this with all locking implements, but a major manufacturer cannot?  :dunno:

I was able to buy it on Amazon for just a bit more than I could have from Aliexpress.
