I agree.  The title says Ranger Challenge”, so if it is the 113 Ranger then sounds good to me.

True!

....although.....rules say "112".

Whichever idiot made the rules.......?

There is also a Victorinox Ranger isn't there? I think I used to have one around here somewhere.

Like the "don't stab any sailors" rule?  The way I read that we're free to stab soldiers, Marines, Space Force...whatever they're called, , but not sailors.   :(

Awesome.  The grey is cool.  I remember seeing a 112 with blue colored wood at one point but of course their no longer available anywhere.  But thanks to Berry I have a traditional ebony handled which I plan on using.
I grabbed a Blue Wood model from Copper & Clad a few years ago. And, IIRC, Buck still offers the option on custom shop orders.
Mine is a very, very dark blue, but I lived the blade and nickel bolsters so never returned for more blue.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

True, there are no explicit rules against stabbing soldiers. I'm not sure if Marines are covered under the "sailors" rubric..... In the USA, Marines are a part of the Department of the Navy and they can float. So, I believe the prudent participant would do well to avoid stabbing Marines, just to be careful. Obviously no one should stab a Coastie. Poor form, and they are sailors in their hearts.

Naturally, as with all challenges, one should follow local laws and safety (third) provisions, in addition to the explicit challenge rules.  :tu:

And what are Space Forcers called?  Space cadets?

I have a blue-wood scaled 110. It also has dark scales. The blue color shows up best in bright light.

Top: 112 with grey wood scales. Bottom: 110 with blue stained scales.

Please explain this "one" concept to me.......

In any event, after a bit of diligent searching, digging, and panicking, the 112 I'm planning on using for the challenge has been found:

(Image removed from quote.)
Buck 112 Ranger, 5160 steel, some sorta grey wood scales.

:like: Would like to hear what you think of the 5160 compared to Buck's 420HC then .

I may be wrong, but my impression is that Buck's 5160 is a bit harder than the 420HC. It seems slightly tougher to sharpen, too. I suspect thee 5160 holds an edge a bit better than 420HC, but I haven't really done head-to-head testing.

I find that both the 5160 and the 420HC take a really good edge, so that is a draw.

I worry about stain resistance with the 5160, but not at all with the 420HC.

5160 "Spring steel" is legendary for its toughness and impact resistance.....but....in a small pocket knife (or even my 5160 Buck 105)? I'm calling that a draw, too.

I think that unless you have some compelling reason to choose 5160, the average user (me included) is better off with the stainless steel benefits of the 420HC.

On the other hand, I do like high carbon steel knives....

Nix, I do appreciate the clarification.   :salute:  I presume local laws protect soldiers, but there may be some leeway in the  Seminole casinos., at least for tribal members.  I will do my best not to stab anyone, especially my favorite victim: ME.  :ahhh

Stabbing is not my problem, it is the painless slice that I experience. Blade is sharp enough that it does snag a nerve.
Next, I find blood everywhere and have to look for the source. A finger, is most likely the victim.

You’re safe, they’re all talking about knives and fingers; not saws and thumbs!  Then again, it might be in the Spirit of the post.
