Today is Memorial Day in the USA. I thought it might be a good day to start a thread for the annual Dean Traditional Challenge. This is a 30-day Traditional challenge that has become an MTo tradition.

Dean51, a wonderful member here on MTO and Traditional pocket knife enthusiast, passed away on January 13, 2020.  His kind voice, knowledge, and wisdom is much missed by long-term members here on MTo. As in years past, this July we will run a memorial challenge in his honor and enjoy the same traditional knives of which he was so fond.

This July, I hope you'll find a treasured Trad or two...or thirty...and join in this challenge. Please raise a blade for a lost MTo'er who's absence is still felt and friendship is still fondly remembered.

This challenge is also an opportunity to earn a Traditional or GEC badge, so there are some rules:

• Carry a Traditional pocket knife every day from 01 July through 30 July
• Post a photo of your daily carry every day.
  -- Please label your official daily post with either the date or challenge day, e.g. "Day 01".
• Please post a comment or two about how you used your knife, or why your traditional needed to be augmented by some fancy new multitool thingy.
• Traditionals can be switched up during the challenge, but for the GEC badge you must carry a GEC every day.

Participants shall carry and use one Soldier knife, the model of their choosing, for the duration of the 90 days and post a picture each day. I'm doubling up with the Dribbly Nib challenge, but it seems to me that traditional pocket knives and pens were made for each other!   :tu:

In my opinion, yes...I think of an Opinel as the traditional knife of France. That is ultimately for Nix to decide.

I'm really looking forward to this challenge!!

Nix,,,, will we be having a cooking sub-challenge (or two) this year? Maybe the obligatory chicken cook within the first two weeks,,, then since fruit is ripening we could make a cobbler or other fruit dessert within the last two weeks? I'm open to any ideas.
