This Churchill was the GEC that I bought after seeing Dean's nice example of the same knife. His had some sweet lighter colored grain on one of the handles.

Off to a great start, y'awl! :woohoo:

Day 1

It's a twofer! The Marble's Canoe was gifted to me by a friend in Germany. I don't know if those covers are genuine ram's horn or not. The Opinel is olivewood. Both got some sharpness testing in the early hours of the morning. The Marble's will do the Rambo paper slice, but the Opinel isn't quite there. More use is possible, as the day is still very young.

Day 00

I have a plan that for this month I am going to carry 30 different trads, changing every day.  This means I'll end up carrying stuff that I don't routinely pick up, but also means that some of my favourites will be very sorely missed!

Day 1

Three of my traditional knives.

The top picture is of the knife my Maternal Grandfather carried to work at the Paper Mill in Parchment, MI. He died in 1971 and this was past on to me then.  His regular pocket knife went to his oldest grandson.

The trapper is my first pocket knife, I bought for when 8 YO, to use for cutting bailing twine, knocking my fingers whittling and cleaning multiple rabbits and pheasants as I grew until college.

The RR Barlow is the first modern traditional I purchased.

A new found respect of the old styles inspired by Dean, Robert, David and Steve here at MTo😉

I could have been a wealthy man if never visited this site!  Instead I am a rich man, with shiny and sharp tools, and FRIENDS from around the globe👍😜 :hatsoff:
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 01  :ahhh

Here we go.  Starting with one of my less used trads; the diminutive RR Mini Canoe.  I like my pocket knives slim by-and-large, but this one is a bit too short for my taste.

Here's to Dean  :salute:  He was a great guy and we miss him dearly !

In honor of Dean who loved Queen Steel I'm carrying a Queen Stockman and a GEC #86 which Dean loved and was the last knife that he purchased before he passed. I think he actually bought a couple of them in different covers.

You'll have to explain to me what the "Rambo paper slice" is though.
I heard one ol' boy in a YouTube video use the name in conjunction with the test, so that's what I call it. It entails trying to cut a slice off a piece of paper. The thinner the paper, the higher the likelihood that the blade will gnaw through it instead of slicing cleanly. Hopefully the attached photo will help give a good idea. My technique needs to improve somewhat, as I don't awlways get consistent results.

Nice photos and excellent trads from awl. This is gonna be fun! :tu:
