SAK Scale Changer Badge Request
on: June 17, 2022, 06:54:44 AM
G'Day,

I have been wanting to add custom brass or bronze scales to my old Champion for a while now. A seller in Oz is making brass and titanium scales for a very reasonable price. I took the plunge a got the brass ones. They arrived today and being on a day off I decided to fit them. These do not require and glue, but are a bugger to fit due to the tight tolerances.

I first tried with just the scales and the knife in a bench vise, but that did not work. I was scared I was going to deform the SAK. I lubricated the holes in the scales and the SAK pins with mineral oil and then had to use a bit of force and a rubber mallet to get them on. It took a fair few blows to get them on, but they will NEVER come off again. One side has a tiny gap, but I can live with that. Finish is excellent and it adds a decent weight to the tool. I really like it. My son and I are going on a bike trip next month and this one will go with.

Cheers, Pete

Thank you for the complements. The pics don't do them justice.
