My first repair
on:
June 22, 2022, 06:06:08 AM
I did the unthinkable and bought a 1960s Champion on eBay. All things considered it’s a nice knife. Long nail file was in good condition as well! Only problem was the corkscrew was broken off.
A quick search through my junk bin yielded a badly worn Spartan with a 4 turn grooved corkscrew, as opposed to the original 5 turn corkscrew original to the Champion. I decided to use it anyway and took the Spartan apart, both to learn how to remove the pin without destroying it as I intended to reuse the pin on the Champion, and to get the part. After that I CAREFULLY popped the scales off of the Champion as far as they could go and swung them out of the way, as the nail rendered full removal almost impossible. A short while later I had the broken corkscrew removed and the replacement installed. Results were pretty good after a buff of the scales and some super glue!

Now that you know you can handle repairs or at the very least have confidence it'll be neat to see what you might find.
Have fun.

Great work! It's always so satisfying when you complete a repair like that and bring an old knife back up to full function.
