After having some argument with my wife I decided to do the best in this situation.
Cool my mind.
So I grabbed a few things and walked outside into the woods, the best place to be on a nice sunny day.
In my pocket a Case Barlow, some string, binocs and my Tilley hat (not pictured is a small FAK I always have with me when going out and about)
No particular destination in mind I just walked around, avoiding paths.
I stumbled upon some nice hazel brushes and into my mind came my self decades ago, sitting and making a bow.
Back then I dreamed about having quality tools like I have now, so I gave it a try.
Only having my Barlow I had to slow down.
Notching and breaking.
Then taking the string, cutting it to the length of the stave and making a knot in the middle I measured the handle.
Then the whittling began, I soon thought that the Barlow is a little too small, having a small blister soon on my hand. I took off my wedding ring and for a unknown reason I started to grab the knife a little different and suddenly it felt extremely comfortable for its size.
Sure, handle and bladelength limit your cutting a bit, but it performed much bigger than I exspected.
I did a rough finish to the stave, and decided to remove the bark to fasten the drying process.
First I scraped with the small blade not to damage the bows back, after the blade was dulled a bit I just peeled the bark off.
Two hours later it was time to head back, took the stave with me to finish later.
For sure it is just a mediocre bow at best, but I started it just for the making.
And it tourned into a nice field test for the Barlow.
It performed beyond exspectation and held an edge very well.
Nice knife, even thought I wish I had my CV Trapper or a fixed blade.
But the best knife is the one you have on you, right?
Have a nice day.
