Flashlight badge request
on: August 17, 2022, 07:57:07 AM
I always have a flashlight, knife, and a folded/rolled up shopping bag whenever I leave the house. The AA Mini Maglite and Vic Tourist stay in my backpack while the AAA Mini Maglite and Vic 84 mm Climber (I was carrying a second Tourist until just the other day) stay in a shoulder bag so I can grab either one without having to transfer anything.

I've had the AA Maglite for at least 25 years. It's been up mountains and down into caves.  ::)

They surely have proven to be a reliable design.
Just last year I switched my EDC from AA to Lion powered lights.
Nice pair of Maglite & SAK combos  :2tu:

These lights are so reliable that I'm completely out of the loop on what's currently available and what the quality's like.

Well, if you ever feel bored and want to start modernising your flashlights I would start by choosing the battery type first maybe, and then search the good MTo for further clues  :salute:

If I had the resources to find someone who can do it for me, I’d mod those 2 lights by:

Gutting out the original contents
Upgrading it to LED emitters with new drivers and a new board to take in 14500 and 10440 batteries
Maybe it’s just a matter of lift-and-shift like transplant the guts of an existing light to the Maglite frames….

That’s a big IF I find someone who’s willing to do it for me

Just a note on this, you'd probably be dropping from two cells to one if you went to Li-ion cells, otherwise you'd get too high voltage I think.

Otherwise, LED conversion for maglites are really popular and there's a lot of material to do so  :tu:
