New color for a MiniChamp
on: August 02, 2022, 05:58:22 AM
Not wanting to simply resurrect an old topic, but I found it via a Google search-  https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,47048.0.html
The topic got me wanting to give it a try on one of my Silver Alox MiniChamps.  Spent some time rummaging through the Boss Ladies nail polish stash and found a red that looked promising.
This stuff was fairly thick, don't know if it's old or that's how it's supposed to be, but I decided to give it a shot using the tips from the older thread.

Here's the result.  I'm fairly impressed with the way it came out.  I know it doesn't look like the Victorinox red, but I like the darker undertones.  Can't wait to see how well it holds up.

I think it looks really good, and I might have to try it out.

My mind is now reeling with possibilities. I think I'll see if I can locate a used silver Alox SAK and try that. The lady of the house currently used gel nail polish, so I may have to have her get a new jar. (Conventional nail polish is basically lacquer paint.)

I can't say what the Boss Lady had, Farmer,  but like I said it seemed to be on the thick side.  I don't remember model airplane paint being that thick ,  but it has been awhile since I used any.

That sort of paint is usually acrylic or enamel. Thickness can vary widely. My experience with lacquers is that they tend to be thin, so I'd guess the nail polish that Boss Lady donated may have been past its prime.

The term donate implies knowledge, on her part.  I kinda borrowed it when I was watching my granddaughter.  🙄

You know, I've wanted a Red Alox MiniChamp for a long time now and figured that the only way I could get one, at a price I could afford, was to do the aged look with nail polish.
Well, after 3 weeks, of looking at a close but not Victorinox Red, I decided to make a change.
Decided that black is black.
Used the same brand of the Boss Lady's polish as last time.  Granted, it's not a perfect aged look, but I think that it'll be around for awhile.
