91mm long metal file/saw - will this work as a nail file?

I've been thinking of getting a 91mm with the long file / metal saw such as the Mountaineer or Ranger.  Pictures I have seen seem to show a cross cut file.  Will this work as a nail file?

I personally find them a little coarser than I like for a nail file, but they're not unusable.

I agree that they are noticeably coarser than typical nail files, but in my experience they work just fine.

Yes, and with a nice nail cleaner on the end. I have the Mountaineer in my pocket right now.

As others have said, Vic specifically pegs the tip as both a nail cleaner and a small crosshead screwdriver.
That implies the file will work for nails, and there is both a coarse and a fine side - I believe fine is usually the left side, ie the one with the nail nick.

I've used it for nails a few times and they work fine, so long as you take it easy. Don't go mad, or you'll have no fingertips!!

  I like that model too and actually have two of them.  I usually carry two SAKs: one with scissors and file and one with a bit bigger blade,  For ex an Executive and a Spartan.  I was trying to come up with a single SAK that has scissors, a nail file, and a decent sized blade.  The Compact comes close but I don't like the file much.  So I've been looking at Mountaineer and other 91mm models with the metal file.  I've never owned one with that long metal file.

The double-cut file will work on fingernails, but my personal preference for that purpose is the stippled file.

Old plated, yes. Modern cut stainless, way too aggressive.

Run the file backwards. Less aggressive.
