Zippo Survival Fire Starters.
on: June 26, 2022, 04:05:13 PM
Looks like Zippo is getting into the survival gear game. Here are 2 fire starter pieces.

1. Zippo Emergency Fire Kit.

This kit comes with a Zippo flint fire starter and 5 pieces of tinder. Everything stores away in a waterproof container.

One has to wonder why not just carry a Zippo lighter. But then again, reason and common sense never stopped me from buy something with multi-functionality before.

In all seriousness, the Surefire multi-tool is a nice piece of well made kit. It would make a great backup to a lighter, or on its own. Both of these offerings from Zippo should get you a fire going in no time at all in an emergency.

I considered a fire grater some years ago, but could basically only find woodtools with full handles and so on. Not very portable.

Have you tried the crater? Does is work well on fresh cut wood?

I have not tried it Vidar. Mind you, I bought the Gerber Bear Grylls tinder box...so I even have to question my judgement at times.

Fuel evaporation.  I like my old Zippo, but I carry Bics when I want a lighter.  Thanks for the heads up on these.  My wife likes to buy survival gadgets as Xmas gifts for me.  ;)

Just doing my duty is all.  :D

Just watch out on the multi-tool. I properly christened the knife blade as it cut deep into my thumb. I sure blead something fierce. Zippo isn't kidding with the sharpness of the blade.  :ahhh

Upon closer inspection of your picture that blade does look darn sharp!
Sounds like a proper christening. Ouch! Thanks for the heads up

Fuel Evaporation is why for years my Zippos didn’t get carried.  But since discovering the Butane inserts, I almost always have one in my pocket and don’t have to worry about evaporation.  Zippo now even makes one of the Arc inserts if that is your preference.

I’ve seen those before and thought about getting the Surefire.

The fire Kit reminds me a lot of the Spark-Lite which I do have and like.
