2022 EDC Fixed Day Challenge
Day 1

Really looking forward to seeing all the different fixed blade, a subject I know very little about.

Well, I'm gonna go ahead and be "that guy" with the ratty old traditional Sharpfinger.

Carried it most of the day,, no uses today though.

Day One

Today was a Cold Steel SRK kind of day. Bought this one on Amazon for 35 bucks last week. It seems pretty stout for that price point.  Used it to open my M&Ms .

Never owned one, but I've read several very positive reviews of the SRK. Seems Cold Steel got something right with that design!  :tu:

Day 02
Now I'm carrying the new Bradford Guardian 3.5 and It is a little awkward.  It is slightly longer than the other knives that I comfortably carry in horizontal sheaths, so the only way I can carry it without having it stick way out and showing as an odd protrusion under my shirt is to wear it directly in front.  It is under the front edge of my desk and has hit the desk when I stand up, and it hits the kitchen counter top when I'm at the sink.  I'll have to become much more aware of its presence to avoid putting a bunch of scratches and dents into it.

Beautiful Pictures and very diverse selection of fix blades as well.

Comis, luv the Fiddleback Forge selection. I am familiar with their work and was impressed by their quality.

Sos, your Bark River! Words escape me, very nice and classy!!!

GA1dad, the SharpFinger is a classic, I have not purchased one yet, almost last night, but a old favorite appeared last night I could deny a home.

After some thought, I realized my first fix blade was a Rapala Filet knife, an 8” or was it 10”, will have to examine my tackle box later today.  Otherwise fix blades were only brought out for hunting trips for deer, and for camping excursions.

This October will be exciting, and will require more thought when selecting my SHARP TOOL each day!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 2 -

A packaged arrived on day 1, could do a challenge without one new knife.

A Eldris light duty arrived, via Amazon.
Straight away I added a lanyard to the knife, and a loop to the sheath. Fiddled with it and determined there is no indexing to determine blade orientation 🙄. For visible, I used a red ink marker to blade edge down of handle, and then added a notch to top side of handle. Hopefully I will not cut my self…

And, then I made a mod to my Izula, for my pocket carry deployment.  I measured out about 30” on paracord, and made a loop, measuring about 24” long.  Slipped one end thru the sheath hole, and the other on my belt.  Inserting the sheath tip first into my pocket it can reach the pockets bottom, with knife handle up.  When needed I only need to extract the knife by the handle, the correct stops the sheath and knife is usable with one hand action.  The loop cord can be utilized on the Eldris as well. 😉

Then while visiting farm store I find…

The Eldris has had me curious.  It looks nice and comfortable to use, but that it might be fat for pocket or conceal carry.

I have the same issue with my BR mountaineer, which is why I usually carry crossdraw (angled).  The problem with crossdraw is then it isn’t as comfortable for sitting.

I had been curious as well🙄

My hands are XL to XXL size measured by the glove sizing I buy.  That is why I configured then paracord to each end. The sheath end a loop to attach a neck line or dangle hook like a S-Hook to Jean belt loops.
It is two bulky for skinny jeans, and bulky for my front pocket, (not skinny style😉)  It is light enough, it will ride in a leg pocket with no issues or a coat pocket as well.   Or, serve as a neck knife if you prefer.  It does provide a good grip and can easily handle stick feathering, carving chores, or line cutting.
Blade is to short for game cleaning, food prep or slicing.  But, I could see using for slicing jerky, cutting dog treats, or even cutting brownies into manageable snack servings.  The one I picked is listed as light duty, and stainless steel, with a rounded spine and details include NOT TO BE USED FOR FIRE/SPARK PURPOSES.   A ORANGE model apparently is designed for those needs.

Just my simple and humble views.  This one cost less than $17 before tax via the River store.  IIRC Orange was 25.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 3

Did someone say Eldris :pok:

Considering my main daily blade use is in the kitchen thought I’d give the light duty Eldris a go (I’ve one of each type)

The blade is obviously a bit short so didn’t expect too much, but for vege prep like beans and broccoli it worked fine. I prefer a sandoku for this type of prep normally so took a minute to get used to the straight back blade but did the job no worries
