Day 2:

A couple of years ago, I really went on a small fixed-blade bender. Wanted something that fit in my pocket,  and originally, neck carry was a no-go.   I thought the AG Russell Hunter Scalpel would be perfect, and it was, as a neck knife. I've carried it two years like that with no problem--it's almost always on me--either as a light-duty house knife or as a last-ditch self-defense instrument.   AG Russell and Blackie Collins co-designed the "Thumbolt" system which uses a spring-loaded catch that holds the knife into the sheath, and it works well. I practiced with it, and I can deploy this knife quicker than any folder. AG Russell used the design on two versions of the Hunter Scalpel, Deer Hunter (have this one also--took ages to find one), and a Bird and Trout. Blackie Collins used it on several of his own design--from both Gerber and Meyerco.

I'll likely be bringing this one with me tomorrow.

Day2
Another day, another pile of boxes....
The back of the shop is knee deep in the day's cardboard right now.
This Ozark Trail is what I really wanted to try out this time, the mora from yesterday is just my normal backpack carry. Unless I buy something new these two will probably be this month.

As for this knife it's 7in over all, made of mystery steel, and cost me a whole $3usd on clearance. I love the design, hate the sheath.
I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
But for now I'm just a lost jack of trades with neither mastery nor home. ~NoaIsumi

Out and about with the Esee Pinch neck knife...
You can legally carry that?

Walking the dog and snapping a close up of the blade and manufacturer info on sheath.
Nice knife, and hope your dog is doing well!

The Eldris has had me curious.  It looks nice and comfortable to use, but that it might be fat for pocket or conceal carry.
My Eldris, which has been passed on to Alan, was intended to be a neck knife. If I carried it about my neck and tucked it under my shirt, it was very noticeable...but of questionable legality, which is why Alan got it. It awlso could be put in the sheath either way, just like my Garberg.

Great stuff for Day 2! :tu:

Today was a pocket carry with this little two-finger knife, I love the hammered appearance of this line of knives. It cut open some food packets, but that's about it.

Not without good reason Dan. The law is a bit vague but simplistically I can’t carry any knife (or tool like a screwdriver) without good reason.
However when I go into the bush I believe that is a good reason whether for bush craft, camping, food prep or just safety

Day to day I only usually carry a 58mm SAK or small LM which in itself is pushing it legally but I do use them for work.

Sometimes work requires something a bit larger (pliers, drivers) in which case I’ll take a Rebar or similar which I stow in my backpack. I’d never carry just a knife into the city as there wouldn’t be good reason to

The law is complicated and a perhaps bit heavy handed, particularly for someone who collects knives and MT’s like me, but for by far the most part I just use them around the home which is allowed. I’m not someone who wants to break the law but there are permissible reasons which I try to stick to

Day 3 -

Front pocket carry of the IZula worked Ozk for me, but not as easy to extract when need as I hoped as it wanted to lay flat in the pocket, actually more diagonally and jam into the seams.  After thinking about I made a small change.  I added a line of paracord across the top two screw holes, and ran the belt loop strap thru it hope it remains upright.

I can use the same sheath for my Izula II when it is her turn.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 2 -

A packaged arrived on day 1, could do a challenge without one new knife.

A Eldris light duty arrived, via Amazon.
Straight away I added a lanyard to the knife, and a loop to the sheath. Fiddled with it and determined there is no indexing to determine blade orientation 🙄. For visible, I used a red ink marker to blade edge down of handle, and then added a notch to top side of handle. Hopefully I will not cut my self…
[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

And, then I made a mod to my Izula, for my pocket carry deployment.  I measured out about 30” on paracord, and made a loop, measuring about 24” long.  Slipped one end thru the sheath hole, and the other on my belt.  Inserting the sheath tip first into my pocket it can reach the pockets bottom, with knife handle up.  When needed I only need to extract the knife by the handle, the correct stops the sheath and knife is usable with one hand action.  The loop cord can be utilized on the Eldris as well. 😉

Then while visiting farm store I find…
[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]
Two bargains that I could not resist.

So it starts🤪

Just gotta luv challenges.
The Eldris has had me curious.  It looks nice and comfortable to use, but that it might be fat for pocket or conceal carry.

Day 3

I had the Eldris for a while now, and thought I should bring it out for the photo op today.  Next to it is a Mora "Rookie and a modded Mora No. 2.

I remembered when I planned to get the Eldris as it was being released, I had high hopes for it.  Based on my of my Mora knives experiences, somehow I was hoping it would be a light weight knife with great utility and a full grip.   But in reality, I felt the features on this knife are conflicting, and can't really understand the concept behind the design.

The handle is contoured, but the grip is quite short.  I have a mid-large size hand(Mechanix glove), but this is only a 3.5 finger grip for me.  The blade is really short(2.2), but the bulky handle makes the real usable cutting edge felt even shorter.  The overall length is short, but since the fat handle and sheath is quite girthy, it's hard to horizontal carry this like most small, lightweight fixie.  The blade height is rather top, despite the short blade length, which makes it hard to maneuver when craving wood.

All in all, I  never fully understand the knife and warm up to it.  If for wood carving, there is Mora 120 wood craving knife(highly recommend this), which has longer handle, awesome geometry, lighter and slimmer in profile.  If we just want a 'small' knife, the Rookie could have fitted the bill(with a little modding) or even the Mora No.1 would have done it.

Nice!  I think I have the exact same handle on my Izula from Knife Connection, the longer handle really does transform the knife and make it more usable. :tu:

Yes, found at Knife Connection, he apparently makes these or has them done for him.  My Izula had become unusable for to the shorter handle and even with paracord wrap I had no purchase power with my numb fingers due to an electrical accident s few years ago.

Makes it the same length as the II.
I wished he had the Orange pattern but only for the II.  Happy with the red. 😉

Day 3:  Ran errands, decided I'd just throw the Xtra Edge in my shirt pocket; as it's probably the most inconspicuous fixed blade I have that's still comfortable to use.

When I got home, I had a package to open.

My experiences during last month's Ranger challenge led to the conclusion I ought to try the first and second-generation Bucklite Rangers (422) as I wasn't a fan of the modern lightweight Ranger and Hunter handles. I already had the two-blade Selector and I loved its handle, so I decided to see how it would be on a Ranger. And I have to admit, I really like the feel of it. The finger grooves fit my hand perfectly.

Second-gen should be here in a few days.....

Tied up the remnants of a bale of straw used for mulching the veggie beds. The new puppy loves to pull straw out of the bale and chew it and spread it around. Mrs Nix was not amused and I was directed to remedy the situation. A bit of jute and a sharp knife and the problem was solved.   :tu:

The BLJ works much like a very sturdy utility knife. Surprisingly efficient. The edge is a bit obtuse, so I'll need to use it for some food prep to get a better idea of its versatility.  :dunno:

Doing the Ranger challenge last month and already having a 110LT, decided I preferred the handles on the LT to the slim. As they stopped making them a few years ago took a little tracking down but here we go :woohoo:

Unfortunately, they’re impossible to find because they were replaced by the Essential II.  But the sad thing is the Essential II is also impossible to find, I know because I really want one and can’t find one.

Day 3
The Essential opened some mail to include the White River ATK.

I am really looking forward to using the ATK.

Initial impressions of the ATK are:
- The blade looks longer than expected.  On paper it is the same length as my Vermin, yet in reality is longer
- Because of overall length I was expecting to be able to have a full grip but because of the shape it is really only a three figure grip but comfortable.
- It is real sharp right out of box
- Because of the way it clips into the sheath (using first hole on sheath), I don’t think it could be wrapped in paracord and still fit in sheath
- The profile including sheath is really flat so it can disappear as neck knife or in pocket

Here is a picture of it compared to the Vermin and Essential (almost identical in size to Izula).

I was going to take a picture comparing to my Izula, but it appears that one has temporarily been misplaced.  I believe it is in my car and I wasn’t going to check with the storms.
