I do have some big hands.

I have my Ontario Airforce survival knife, not a good edc option

A Cold Steel Recon Tanto 3V , again not a great edc option. It is an awesome knife though. A bit silly but i grew up with Soldier of Fortune magazine ads with Cold Steel in the 80's.  ::) ::)

and a Spyderco Bow River that may be an option to carry.

(Image removed from quote.)

Your Spyderco Bow River looks like a good carry however it'd be fun to see that Cold Steel in this challenge at some point.

I've brought out a few fixies for consideration:

(Image removed from quote.)

Please vote for one of the above for me to carry for Fixtober!

A. Breeden Custom -- a simple design and a really nice knife
B. Becker BK11 -- solid drop point with some trail time behind it.
C. Buck 102 Woodsman -- a classic.
D. Fiddleback Bowlegged Joe -- eccentric design, small, but functional.
E. Fiddleback Bushboot (I think) -- sweet drop point.

Vote by letter and/or name. Whichever blade gets the most votes is the one I'll use in Fixtober!
I would say use them all!
However, if you want to carry only one my 2 cents go to Joe!

You only get to vote twice if you live in Chicago or New Orleans. :twak:   Their motto was always, "vote early and vote often."

I’m another one for D or E.  E looks like it would be a great all around user, but D looks very interesting and unique, so I would love to know how it works for all sorts of tasks.

Right now I've tallied:

A: none
B: 1
C: none
D: 4!
E: 1

So, Sos, I need a solid D or E. Doesn't feel right to vote split....

I wonder, can you shave with that cutie?

Saw one similar on sale at Knives Center by CRKT.  A neck knife. 🙄

I'm not sure it is shaving sharp at present, but is suspect it could be used for shaving purposes. The one factor holing it back a wee bit might be the unsharpened heel. That might limit its use as a proper shaving razor.

I value any moderator's input since that keeps the moderators interested in the thread, which keeps them around, which in turn keeps the participants honest and polite.  It works the same way as when the stores in rough neighborhoods offer free coffee to police officers so the officers will hang out there. :2tu:

Indeed. Option A, the Breeden custom, with no votes, isn't very sexy, but in the hand it is remarkable. Breeden is a Nebraska farmer with a sideline in knives. Nothin' fancy, but all function.  ;)

Still, Option E is nuthin' to sneeze at. Can carve up a side of ribs with the best. Hey...............

I find the Woodsman to be light and solid with a great handle and a very useful blade shape.

I agree, yet it is a familiar design and many are aware of its functionality.  I suspect the members that voted wish to test our friend Nix’s skills with a sharp unconventional knife.

Bingo.  Its a challenge and as such its fun to use a knife that is not one you'd reach for as quick as others.  Just like I like to use whatever fixed blade I have with me for food prep.  Not always the best knife but fun to do so.  You'll see over the challenge the random blades I'll use for whatever I have in front of me.

Thats my take.

Does anyone else want to play?  You are allowed to carry and use other knives and tools, you just have to use a fixed blade knife as your primary cutting tool.  Just copy and paste the list and add your name.

Look what I found!  :woohoo:

An 857 El Morro from Buck.  I was looking for my Mora 511 and this was in the same slot in storage bin.

I have never used, was found at Walmart, marked down for under $12 a long time ago. Now I have a 2nd option, just need to determine how I will configure the sheath???

Nice!

A question: Y'all prepping and making choices got me thinking as well:
How do the challenge rules define 'fixed blade'? Quite often instead of a traditional fixed blade knife I choose Tops MicroHawk. Does knife duty ok'ish but has 'hawk skills as well. Most of all, it does not draw attention like a fixie whilst carrying in semi-civilized environments. After all, it was designed as a light low key option for traditional survival/bushcraft knife.
So, one of my all time favorites.
Does it qualify?
