It sure does look good. I have to wonder how useful the hammer end is (and how it stands up to use).

I've used the hammer multiple times. It gets the job done if you have some minor hammering job. Like, a nail or two to drive back/in etc. The head is quite narrow so it does require some extra focus and anything more than minor jobs I would use a proper hammer.
So far mine does not show signs of wear from jobs I've done with it

350 TBI and THM400 (3 and overdrive).

Currently showing 34x xxxx km. Engine hasn't been opened, runs and performs like a TBI (good enough or badly depending on one's view on this configuration I guess ;) Me? I'm actually very fond of the system, reliable and good on gas).

Tranny got new clutch packs and belts appr. 12 k ago.

FIAT never had the best of reputations in the States. The old joke in the States is that FIAT stands for "Fix It Again, Tony!"

As for the truck...I understand that the 4-speed automatic is the 700-R4. Or does it have an external overdrive unit? I'm a manual transmission kinda guy...

Both of my F-150s, as well as my '99 Explorer Sport, had the M5OD 5-speed manual. A lot of guys detest those transmissions, but aside from the internal slave cylinder :twak:, they never gave me any trouble.

Awl right...back to topic...I'm enjoying this challenge. I'd like to see those hex wrenches in action.

...

It's quite similar in german. Here FIAT stands for "Fehler in allen Teilen" (errors in every part), or so they say.
Best regards and stay safe,

Wolfgang

You might be right. GM auto trannys are not my speciality.

As for the Fiats, the reputation is the same all over.
Some of it deserved, granted, but after owing at least one for the past odd 25 years I beg to differ.
Always good to drive, at least average reliabilty, often pretty, whats not to like?

Personally I value Fiat very high, they've done it all, and with flair.
Very few, well in my book perhaps only Mercedes (another one I feel strongly for, allthough I'm struggling a bit with the late lineup) has done the same.

Without Fiat there would be no Italian motor industry to speak of methinks.
However, I do understand that people have different opinions and criteria, and that is ok. I would never willingly drive any VAG-product (with the expection of few past models) or BMW whilst most of the motoring world find them most desirable.

Yup.
I know it is not that simple but since the Brava/Bravo of mid-nineties my main procedure of solving problems in Fiats/Lancias/Alfa Romeos has been to look for components labeled 'Bosch' and replacing them. :)

Having said that I think it is only fair to also admit that in any of mine or family's Mercs Bosch components seem to go on for ever.

Go figure...

Oh, my brother did like his Fiat X1/9 very much, which he drove for some years as a young man. No complaints heard. Today it's a french family van, due to altered family status ...
Best regards and stay safe,

Wolfgang

I would agree.

I have been tempted by some FIATs, but need for a truck and lack of space to store a project forced me to pass on them. One of the few die-cast cars I still own is a Corgi X1/9.

I've had corks that were such a pain to remove that I would up pushing them down into the bottle. The hammer head could possibly be used for that purpose...if you're very careful.
