What a coincidence, I have a small clip point today too!

Okay, I know I missed doing an update yesterday, so here is something doubly cool to make up for it- not only is it a Victorinox Salesman, but it is literally an advertising knife for Sika!

In case you don't know why a Salesman is a cool knife in its own right, here's a list of why collectors will be drooling over these pics- square shanked Phillips, 84mm model with scissors, inlaid advertisement, scissor pivot with screw, small clip point blade and a single leaf spring in the scissors!  All on one knife!

But don't take my word for it- check out what the Swiss Army Knights say about it on SAKWiki.com! https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Salesman

Given the sad news today I shall refrain from posting and do so tomorrow instead.

RIP Your Majesty.

DAY 9

I didn't think it appropriate to post yesterday so here is Day 9.

I'll do an extra day (Day 8) at the end of the 30 day period to catch up.

oooooh Surgey - A gen 2 SwissCard I think - Has it got the protractor?

Not sure about the Gen 2 thing but, yes; it does have the protractor (is that good  :dunno:)

It's just one more tool; to check angles, of course. If you don't need it, it's not in the way.

And yes, protractor on a Swisscard means "generation 2". The first generation didn't have one. Generation 3, the Swisscard Classic, lost the revolving door for a cutout dimple. Better stability, less moving parts.

SAKtember Day 9

The one I'll carry today is the Garant.  Read about it here:
https://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Victorinox+Garant
I love that it has a pen in the scales.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

And you can insert a pin, Lisa.  :salute: The hole is there, just beneath the corkscrew. Unlike the 91mm plus scales, the pin inserts with an angle, not straight.

I only wished Victorinox would add those plus scales as regular items.   :dunno:

I've mostly been playing around with my Wenger Traveler and Wenger Swiss Sportsman today.

Here's a picture showing their differently sized can openers. The Traveler is on the top and the Swiss Sportsman on the bottom.

Day 9

Wrapping up the 93s today, with a mid 70s Electrician. I wanted at least one old cross in my collection, and a lot of people ranted and raved about the electrician blade. Love the feel of the scales, the slightly worn, almost smooth alox is great in hand.

I do question the placement of the second blade. I've ranted about how much I love the can opener before, I think it's probably the most multifunctional tool on most SAKs. And that tiny phillips is great for switch plates and a lot of other electrical type stuff. Could it have swapped with the bottle opener instead (do we really need two wire strippers?) or maybe the awl? I don't do a ton of electrical work, but I never remember needing an awl for it, and it often gets used as a secondary blade anyway.

Also wondering about the lack of keyring. Most other Pioneer variants have one. Was the Electrician originally a military issue SAK? Is it a safety issue that an electrician might not want their knife attached to anything else?

Either way, cool old knife that I enjoy carrying from time to time.

Thanks for that link!

Some beautiful SAKs and SwissTools on show today! That said...

Day 9

This is not a beautiful SAK. In fact, it has earned the unfortunate nickname "Ol' Ugly." I try to avoid white SAKs unless they're nice and pristine, but Ol' Ugly came in a lot with nine other 58mm SAKs. The per unit, out-the-door cost was $1.65.

SAKtember Day 10

I generally like the red cellidor scales that Victorinox makes, but now and again some custom scales catch my eye.  These wooden scales are on a Huntsman, I liked them immediately.  Going to carry this today.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

DAY 10

Carrying one of my favorite Alox models today- Swiss Army 7 AKA “The Harvester”
This makes a great combo carry with my favorite model the Explorer. No duplication if you take into account that the cap lifter and main blade are larger on the Alox. Love carrying these two together.
Very much enjoying seeing everyone’s posts and pictures

Even though it was a bright and sunny day at the beach it was still nice to have this Wenger Spotlight in my pocket!

This particular Spotlight is also equipped with scissors, but this model is also available without them if you wanted the knife a bit more streamlined.  But, what's really neat is that it predates LED incorporation into these kinds of things- yup, this is an old incandescent light, which means the battery is perpetually dead!  😀

Read all about the Spotlight (with scissors!) At SAKWiki.com as we continue SAKtember!

That's a damn good looking knife!

Day 10

Swisschamp spent part of the day with me today, but got swapped out for the Cadet when I went to a funeral. The can opener driver tightened some lose screws on the church's fridge door.

Then I had to put out a fire in the kitchen. My SAK didn't help with that, but one of my friends who likes to hear about the challenges we do said, "Thank goodness there was a Swiss Army Knight available!" I'm doing awl I can to uphold the reputation of our fine order.  :salute:

Back to the SC, I carried it for the second half of the Stack challenge earlier this year. I think everyone should spend at least a week or two with one in their pocket. Firstly, to dispel the "Swisschamps are too big to carry!" myth (it's smaller than my wallet!) and secondly to really see which tools you do and don't use. If I hadn't carried it, I might never have realized how handy the fish scaler can be day to day.

BTW, I know full well that these eposts are not informational to the Swiss Army Knights- you folks all know this stuff already, but it's from the MTO Social Media feed (although you probably knew that too!) and it seems there are a lot of enthusiasts out there that don't know these details.   :D

If you are fortunate enough to be Canadian, like me, you are probably familiar with Mountain Equipment Co-Op, or MEC for short.

But, did you know they produced this special edition black scaled Climber model in 2011 to celebrate their 40th Anniversary?  They chose well too- the Climber is one of the most popular configurations of Swiss Army Knives out there, and has been used for many commemorative occasions, including Victorinox's own 125th Anniversary!

Find out all the cool facts about the Climber, all safely contained at SAKWiki.com!  https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Climber
