SAKtember Day 2

Carried some sunshine on my belt today with the yellow Champ. Though with sunny and nearly 90, I didn't really need to.

Instead of one of my SAKs, I decided that today I'd show one of Multitool Meg's- and her camouflaged Victorinox Camper was quick to volunteer!

The Camper has always been one of my favorites, largely because it was my first Swiss Army Knife way back in the early 80's, and I probably passed that love for the model on to her.  Still, she wanted hers to stand out, so I put some camo scales on it for her and she carries it everywhere!

See why the Camper is such a cool model at SAKWiki.com!  https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Camper

And don't forget to join in the SAKtember fun with the Swiss Army Knights too! https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,89809.0.html

Love the Outrider, would probably be my go to for camp if it was OHO.

And good idea on the OHO - I like non-OHO - But offering it as an option would be a a VG idea IMHO

Day 3

I'm awlso showing a Camper today. This one is very likely 1986-1991 (four-line tang stamp with big V and grooved corkscrew). Sure would be nice if Victorinox brought back these scales!

Day 3

The Forester is my go to "medium" camp knife. Packing all the most important tools (I wouldn't mind the Outrider's screwdriver, but it's not that important at camp) along with a one-handed non-serrated blade in a package that's small enough to pocket but big enough to feel good in hand. While I often have a larger fixed blade and a 91mm with more tools sitting in the car, I find that I rarely need to actually pull them out.

The nylon scales climber is the most used SAK at home simply coz it’s the one assigned to the kitchen.

Day 4

Posting a little early today with my daughter's BYSAK, an '08 Soldier. It's a little big for her hands now, so it mostly lives in a drawer. I figure I'll give it to her the first time she goes camping without me, or maybe as a sweet sixteen (assuming she still likes SAKs and camping then.)

For the first Sunday of SAKtember, I have blurry evidence that the Victorinox mini screwdriver can fit in (some?) Wenger corkscrews.

I can't say as I know anything about the people at Albany International, but I can say this- someone there has great taste in knives, and this blue ALOX Pioneer Pruner is proof of that!

Featuring just a pruning blade and a main blade this may not be the most versatile tool in your pocket, but if you are a gardener or a whittler, this may be an excellent choice for you. Oh yeah, and did I mention the stunning blue ALOX?  What's not to love?

Read all about the Pioneer Pruner at SAKwiki- you'll be glad you did!  https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Pioneer+Pruner

One of my favorite Wenger purchases. Especially since I bought it years and years ago for only USD30. Took several years after acquisition for me to finally clean it up and now it’s absolutely great! No way I’m getting a newer one, especially how much they’re going for these days.

It was an overcast day here, so I'm showing the only gray SAK I've ever owned. This one was made before 1999.

These implements are the nail busters if one does not use the tool for some time. Took some soaking and WD40 to finally make it useable.

A Tool Chest!  not one you see every day!

I have a nice one that I also bought before the prices went absolutely absurd.  Unfortunately the customs agents slashed the scale pretty bad when they opened the package.  I took it to the local Wenger dealer who was only too happy to replace what they called "the skin" but they did it with a painted shield scale instead of an inlaid shield scale, which was what was damaged.

In the end I am okay with it- I am not that much of a purist (I keep having to tell myself that, so maybe I am!) but it does seem neat to me on some level to have a different version than everyone else!

Day 5

To keep myself organized, I decided to work through my collection in descending size order since I did the 111s the last two days. Today is a first gen GAK, before they added the file to the combo tool/saw/finger slicer. Really like this knife, and would like to carry it more often. The textured nylon scales are my favorites out of any Vic makes: light, durable, grippy, and the eagle gives it some character. The only downside is the foresty green. I like a brighter knife so I can find it after I drop it on a hike. The fact that the tools all swing one way is nice, the awl is wicked sharp, and the combo tool gives it great tool density. Roughly the same tool set as a Farmer, plus a bigger blade, for about a gram less. If you don't need a lock, it's around a 25% weight cut from the Forester.  Vic doesn't make them anymore, but a few of the other old German Army suppliers still are, so pretty widely available for a decent price.

Well used knives like this Victorinox Gourmet have so many stories to tell- I really wish they could talk!  This is what SAKtember is all about!

But that's not all that is interesting about this model- looking closely you will note the faded triangular shield and lack of toothpick/tweezer functions, which brand this model as an Elinox version.  Keep looking and you will see the blade tang doesn't have the Elinox marking on it!

If you don't know why that is cool then you, my friend, need to spend more time checking out SAKWiki.com!  https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Gourmet
