They also come with nice leather handles, which in hindsight I would have preferred...but this one was a few dollars less and I wasn't sure if my planned re-work would have come out successfully.

OK here is the skinny on the K-BarIt is a piece of gear that every marine loves and cherishes. Mine is in my footlocker in the basement and actually went everywhere with me in the Corp. It is a symbol of the corp, and does tie every living Marine to each other. I would never really give up on the K-bar, and actually plan on it being burried with me. I know it sounds a bit corney but that is how we feel about out bar. However that does not mean it is our Excaliber. I used my first K-Bar for Hand to hand training, and a trip into the field. As a fighter it really has not a lot of equals. It is perfection in ballance and in thrusting. Not to mention it slashes in a horrific way. If I was going to a knife fight there is no other blade I would take. With that being said I dont go to many knife fights lately so I guess it is a moot point. For field work it is a perfect piece of kit also. It has perfection in its grind, and it can dig like a tank. However the weak point of the K-Bar is the tang. I snapped my first trying to scale a wall. I jammed the blade between two rocks and stepped on the handle. When I bounced to jump up the tang snapped. Right at the guard. Now that is abuse of the blade, but an accepted and instructed use of the knife. After that happened, I bought the second. When I was sent to Coranado For buds I was issued the Cold steel SRK. I dont know how Lynn T talked himself into there, but he did. And I am glad. I have had that SRK now for 15 years and it is still going strong. Tons of time in salt and standing on the hilt. Ands it comes back for more.So unless you are going to breach the castle.. Dont worry about the Bar it works great. But I still like the srk more.
Ge Dunc maybe sometime I will post about my exchange with the British royal Marines. I got sent to Belfast for 3 weeks until they found out I was Catholic!
Great guys, but I was the last one that should have been sent because of political views. They all understood but were very standoffish in the beginning. I was finally released from duty there. However that BRM are a great outfit and dothe name Marine proud! And Mick I had no ill will to anyone over it really so turn that frowny face upside down. I was a Marine then and had no use for politics.
They were Womanising, Foulmouthed, Card cheating, Gambling,Alcholics. What do ya think I thought of them.......I LOVED those guys.
Wierd thing is they were all older. I was at the time 19 and the average age of them was pushing 27. I never really found out why, but I assume it was to allow them to season through a couple hitches before serving overseas.
