Favorite 58mm
on: September 01, 2022, 03:58:25 PM
Just wondering what everyone's favorite 58mm model is, past or present. I carry a Midnight Manager on my key ring currently. I started off with a Classic SD, then moved to the Rambler, then a MiniChamp for a while before landing on the Midnight Manager. I wanted to carry a small toolset and a flashlight and this fits the bill in a small package. I frequently use the pen while out shopping and that little led comes in handy when it's pitch black. I'm curious to see what your favorite is.

One more for the Midnite Manager! Went the same way, except for the MiniChamp. Great little toolbox, more than enough for my daily needs.

The Manager is probably my favorite, and I always have one with me on a ring with some other toys.  I like the micro phillips which is pretty useful in today's world, along with the pen.  The Alox Classic is also a winner.  You can handle a lot of things with the Classic and a mini light.

Alox Classic SD.

Midnight Manager.   :tu:

I carried a Manager for a very long time till FolderBeholder graciously sent me the MNM.  Its such a great little SAK tho chubby.  I appreciate the light on it more than I thought I would.  Perfect for those times when all you really need is some light.

I’ve recently added a Caddy Plus T&T  to my keychain.
I’m a fan of the micro flathead for sunglasses and stuff.
Haven’t used the divot tool yet
It’s a great combo carry with the Harvester  :tu:

The Rambler is my favorite and has been in my pocket everyday since I bought it. No contest.

I've been carrying Classics and Classic SDs for decades on my key ring. The Alox Minichamp - my precious!  Very, very useful and not thick or bulky.  Here are some of my current favs

I carry a MiniChamp, because it's small enough to fit my wallet.

I'd love a Midnight Manager @Work, but Vic want over a hundred quid for the thing...! Pretty much any Rambler-like gets my approval, really.

Alox Classic SD, though an Alox Rambler would move to the top of the list pretty quickly.

Could you use the divot tool as a small fork?

I'm very fond of the Vagabond.
That is a real beauty! :like:

I have found that the newer 58mm combo tool can be very useful, so my favorite 58mm would be so equipped.

Rambler for me. Most of the other 58mm tools are iffy for me, and I like T&T more than the flashlight or pen.

Always carry either a Manager or Rambler.... like to have tweezers and also always carry a nitecore or RovyVon keychain light or it'd likely be a midnite manager  :climber: :tu:

I'm very fond of the Vagabond.

Oh my goodness, that's beautiful.
I've been seeing them on the eBay, but never in Alox.  I'm definitely super jealous.
The gushing and drooling finished for a minute, I've got to say that my Alox MiniChamp is my favorite.  (since I don't have a Vagabond.)  No thicker than a celidor Rambler and easy to carry.

I've seen some people get good results painting Alox. I think they usually use either nail polish or modeling paints.

Me too.
I saw a black one, used, on the eBay for a decent price, some time ago, and bought it.  Lately, I've seen Red being offered at well over a hundred dollars.

I saw a blue one on Facebook and drooled for an hour.  Of course it wasn't for sale.
Like BpRoberts said nail polish works good if you're wanting a distressed look.  I did one with some shade of red, from my wife's stuff.  Color bothered me so I went with black.

My favorite is the Classic SD.  I have a Rambler but the Classic is lighter on the keys and my main use is the scissors and nail file.  I rarely if ever use the blade so the Rambler with the blade hinged better doesn't do much for me and the nail file on the Classic is easier to use when on the keyring.

The Alox Vagabond has the tools arranged a little bit differently than the cellidor.   I do think the Alox MiniChamp is very close in line with the Vagabond.

It's only ever been the Rambler for me - I'd trust nothing else.  :tu:

I have the parts to make a Manager or Midnite Manager; but it makes for too thick knife for my taste, I carry a pen & keyring light anyway, & I'd miss the T&T.

Manager. Always have one on my keys and use it everyday for one thing it another. Scissors go without saying but also use the pen, file and toothpick a lot…blade almost never!

FBs Vagabond does look really very nice though. Might have to acquire a mini champ to mod one…or maybe even a drifter!

Nice to see what everyone has though. I am a great fan of 58s  :hatsoff:

Favorite 58mm?  Rambler, of course. Next best favorite and actual EDC on my keys? Alox Minichamp.

I've only carried a Classic. I had a Rover years ago, but I don't think I ever used it.

I think the Drifter would be my ideal tool set, but I've never actually seen one in the flesh.

I’ve only ever seen one on the SAK Wiki and they don’t seem to get mentioned on here either  - anyone actually got one in their collection or is the Drifter just a mythical beast?

My favorites are Signature and Manager.  I placed a pin next to the pen and gave the other scale a second slot. So I have all plusscale tools on my 58mm and don't have to pay attention to them with my larger knife.
