Thanks fellas.  I have long-awl Pioneers in gold, silver, and red, plus a red Fischer Pioneer, plus the 2224 (which is what today we call a Farmer).  The 2224 is by far the rarest of the bunch.  I need to get them all out and take a family shot, I guess!

Definitely looks like a capable blade.  I'd like a nicer fixie, but can't seem to move past my Mora's.  I find their handle shapes generally work very well for me.

It hard to look past a Mora. I have a few that I very much appreciate.  They are Classics which for me is wonderful.  I do have a Companion but it lives in my camp gear.  Catherine loves her Mora and cannot be convinced to get anything else.

I have wanted a First Mate or other SAK with a sacking needle forever.  Was happy to find this one, although it is far from a mint specimen.   :))

Let’s give this a bump.

Here’s my only current OC - a pioneer with an 85 dated blade.

Let’s see your OC!

My OC is meeting its younger brother that I just got today. Pioneer X also came to say hello. Interesting to see the color difference. The newer red ones are not the 2018 edition but a simple dealer exclusive (that is sold for the regular price of  a Pioneer / X). The color of the OC is just nicer... Gotta get another one when I see a good (and affordable) one!

I like both shades of red, but I'm probably a little more partial to the brighter red. There also seem to be differences (though much more subtle) in the shades of the newer ones. What a great photo! :like:

Somehow I discovered this thread only today!

I have three OC's.

An Elinox Pioneer:

A small 'v' Victorinox Pioneer:

A Farmer, which I bought new in 1997 (27 years ago!  :ahhh):

As a side note, I measured the thickness of all the cap lifters, and they were all identical, at 2.26mm.

The '77 Wenger SI I have has the thicker tools @ 2.65mm.

Nice old cross!   :like:

I kind of wondered if the tools were actually thicker on the old ones, or if it just looked that way because the edges were less rounded. I didn’t think to measure back when I had a (likely early) Elinox pioneer.  Your measurements seem to co firm my suspicions that the thickness hasn’t changed much, if at all.

measure the can opener thickness and blade thickness compared to current production. It's the opening layer that has been thinned out the most and especially compared to Soldier's from the 60's .

OCs are the coolest knives IMHO.

I was lucky begging this year when I found out a nice haul of NIB specimens

I used to have a’99 OC Pioneer which I traded, received a BSA Pioneer that It’s also sweet.
