My next Leatherman
on: January 31, 2009, 05:01:44 AM
Alright guys I am in need of a different type of Leatherman. I have a few PST's 1 Wave and soon to be 4 Sideclips ( I just traded a modified PST for a used Sideclip). I need a different style to pick up. I am leaning towards the Micra. I dont have the cash just yet for the Charges and the Freestyles arent out yet.

I am leaning towards the Micras

Good choice or not?

There's no reason why anyone woulden't like a Micra...they are great.  It fills the role for me personally for scissors (none on my multi anymore), small screwdrivers, and precision blade.  The bottle opener works just like any other bottle opener despite it's size.  The tweezers aren't as comfortble or precise as some like, but they are there if you need them (I carry a really nice pair of tweezers on my keys along side the Micra).

Ive carried my Sideclip faithfully for years now and its all I really have needed. I take the Wave with me on my Duck hunting trips for the potential of needing to repair the gun or boat.

I just feel the need to have something else without breaking the bank.

Have you thought about getting a Supertool?  I know they're out of date but it's a great multitool and would sit well with your mostly older style of Leathermans.

Yes a Supertool is a must have for anyone interested in Leathermans and is a true classic .
I think you should get a Micra , but pair it with your SideClip rather then to replace it , they work very well together .

If you are looking for a smaller tool such as the Micra you should take a look at the Squirt line.  The S4 costs a bit more than a Micra but in many ways I like it more.  I carry a Micra and my wife carries a S4 so I get a chance to compare them side by side often and I almost always prefer using the S4.

Oh and if you don't already have a SkeletoolI highly suggest one. I know some guys are turned off by them but I find it hard to carry anything else since they came out.  It suits my needs almost perfectly.

All the above choices are great but it all depends if you want more or less

I like both the Micra and S4 for each of there differences :tu:

Plus the Skeletool and the SuperTool are both great each in there minimal or maximal categories :tu:

and any other LM mentioned if there were any I missed but they all have there place in one category or another ;) :D

Get a Micra! You can pick used ones up for a few bucks on ebay, so what have you got to lose?

I have a few Micras, (14  :P) one of which I EDC every day. It is probably my most used tool.

The Squirts are good tools, but they cost a packet and get scratched up very easily, without the S4 actually offering much more other than being slightly smaller. Obviously if you want mini pliers, then you want a Squirt, but I favour the Micra personally.

Assuming that's what you go for, then you have to decide what type of Micra you go for, there are 4 different finishes out there, and in a choice of 5 colours.

I used to come here a lot.

I just picked up a Micra with a few other dameged tools. The micra appears to be in great shape so when I get it on the key chain it goes. If I like it I most likely will start getting a few of them.

I saw the other thread! So you got a Squirt too, so you'll be able to do your own comparisons, and find out whether you agree with all the crap we offered :D

The squirt is in bad shape so I am not sure how much of a comparison I could do.

Oh. Are the tools broken or is it just a bit scratched up? Also, is it a S4, P4 or E4?

I used to come here a lot.

Here is what it looks like. The real reason I bought it was for the PST and the micra the rest is just a bonus............

Can I suggest you send it to Leatherman and get it replaced?  It's what the guarantee is for.  I know you didn't break it but Leatherman seems to be willing to stand behind all their products.

I thought about it but wasnt sure if I should since I was not the original owner. I might and if I have to pay a few bucks to have it fixed that would be cool. I will post better pics when I get them to show the damage. For the price of the whole lot of tools I got it would be worth it.

I've never personally put them to the test, but I believe that Leatherman never question as to how it was done or whether you were the original owner.  I think all it should cost you is the postage.  It's more that people don't think about the guarantee that you end up seeing items like this being sold.
