Maybe it would be easier to ask for photo of your carriers smile, then just maybe she has the box.

I am just saying!  Joy!

She's got a good government job with a good health plan and a good pension.  I'd ask for her number. :pok:

I was first in line at the post office with my ticket.  The same lady who gave me such a dirty look last time was flirty.  Seems my rugged good looks are better appreciated without a jackalope along.  I did a homespun handwriting analysis on the ticket and decided that the cute brunette didn't leave the claim ticket.  Maybe she had the sniffles yesterday.
Everything was packed up and orderly in the box.  I never packed a box that well in my life.  I did find a couple of specimens of the type I mentioned earlier.  Something for a future challenge.  It will take a while to go through things.  I'm not in a hurry this time.  Best wishes.  G

Sorry for the lack of sweets this time.  The kids found the stash in the cupboard and dispensed with it. 😑

The box arrived in pretty tough shape.  It was a squshy like a Longhorn had rolled on it.  I dug out my spare box and taped it together.  They still don't have any boxes at the post office.
I did see something surprising when I opened the box.  I saw what looked like a 'party DVD'.  This is what I saw
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
I was horrified.  My DVD player is on the fritz.  What a time for that.  Then I looked a little closer and saw it was a post card with a message on it.  This was the front.
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
Well you can't win them all.  There were a lot of this and a surprising number of that in the box.  I got tired of looking at things and put them aside.  Probably go back over some of it later.  Don't worry about the candy.  I bought some Little Debbies on the way home.  Some of those wafer kind with peanut butter inside and chocolate coating?  Yummers.  Best wishes.  G

Hi Looper,
If anything, she is even nicer than I said.  Trouble is, she knows I won't be there, so she never takes the parcel on the truck.  It is in the post office right now.  Not with her.  Maybe she filled out the failed delivery ticket and will put it in the mailbox.  Maybe she will fill it out at the end of her shift and put it in the mailbox tomorrow.  Either way, it will have tomorrow's date on it for pickup.  That means they won't let it out of the post office until tomorrow.
I do like watching the tracking information.  That for me is more fun than opening the box.  I am about boxed out.  I think Dan and I are both going to take a pass on doing this again.  Maybe I can upload a photo tomorrow.  I am having trouble with photos today.  Best wishes.  G
 :dunno:

I definitely did the box too much last year. Taking a break from it for a while. I'll probably wait until it stalls out again.

Ah, if it stalls, I might have another go at it. We'll see. And I must say, that postcard is pretty cool. I may just have to start up the MTo postcard exchange.

I bought a stack of postcards for the purposes of the GAW box only.  Though it was harder to procure cool postcards than I imagined.

I think I looked at most everything in the box.  I mentioned that I was looking for a certain type of thing.  I think I found what I wanted.
I am signed up for the Delemont challenge or whatever it is called.  I said that I wanted a Wenger beater to carry.  No sense in scuffing up something clean.  I found a Wenger Handyman.  The tools all still work.
The other 65mm has some advertising on the side.  The scales could stand a polish, but if you do the Wenger cross will disappear.  I saw a black one in the package as well.  Might need it too.
The little Old Timer needs a clean up.  I remember when my Dad bought all the guys who worked with him these little knives for Christmas one year.  I'm keeping this one for nostalgia.
Big orange Svord.  Looks like good steel.  Bulky.  Reminds me of an Opinel somehow?  And a Gerber flashlight.  Single AA type.  Aluminum.  No switch, just turn the base cap to use it.  Somebody tell me what the name of this flashlight is.  I took the pocket clip off.
That's it.  I might toss one of these back in.  If I do I won't say that I did.  The box is stuffed like a turkey already.  Might be next week before I get around to repacking everything in the new box.  Best wishes.  G

I am a fan of the Svord and the old Schrade. If you haven't had a Svord before I think you will appreciate the simplicity of them.  Some people reverse the handles and say they carry better that way. :dunno:

No space junk over here.  Just regular junk.

So I initially felt a bit bad because I thought I was pulling too many items out of the box.  But then after I added my items to the box and the box was having a hard time closing, I figured I better pull at least another item or two to get it to close.  I also re-wrapped everything a bit tighter so that the box wouldn't bulge out.

My wife chose the Pock-Its, the sewing kit and the Alissa multi-tool.  My son chose the denim micarta Rough Ryder.  I chose the Victorinox sharpener, the watch batteries, the Zippo flints, the NoBox multi-tool, the Dutch SAK, and the plastic mother of pearl SAK-A-Like.

(Image removed from quote.)  (Image removed from quote.)

I also pulled some of the SAK spare parts.

(Image removed from quote.)

Even after pulling all that out, the box is leaving heavier than I received it.  Farmer X shipped it out at nearly 14lbs and it's now weighing 14.8lbs on our home scale.  The post office will be able to give me a more exact weight.

My goal is to try to go to the post office during my lunch hour and get it shipped out to Gary.
That is a great haul and I’m sure there are some nice additions too.

I think I mentioned there was a black Wenger 65mm in the box that I might need.  I found it.  65mm doesn't sound like much difference in size compared to a 58mm, but they sure feel bigger.  This is the black Esquire next to my white Bijou that I carried when I did the Classic challenge a few months back.
This is my last find, I think.  An extra Wenger for the Delemont challenge.  I haven't had time to pack the box.  Might need more tape than I have on hand anyway.
I have Alan K's address and will probably ship Monday or Tuesday and PM the tracking number.  Best wishes.  G

I have one of the Svords. I like it a lot. I took some paracord and tied a taut line through the hole in the lever, and a bowline at the other end. The loop on the bowline goes around the knife, and the taut line slides to loosen or tighten. Closed, the bowline keeps the blade from opening. Open, it helps keep the blade from closing up. Either way, it gives a lanyard to grab.

I started fidgeting around today and took all the stuff out of the old beat up box and did a test pack on the new box.  It is full to the brim.  Since I got everything in that belonged in, I decided to see if I had enough tape.  I started taping, and next thing you know I had the label on and everything as secure as I could make it.
No sense in this box sitting around my place any longer.  I have to go to the store tomorrow and the post office is on my way, so....... if my house doesn't suffer a strike from carbon fiber wrapped space junk or I'm not jumped on by a herd of ravenous tegu lizards.... the box should make it out tomorrow.  I know it is rainy where I am shipping to, but it seems like the rain will persist there for some time.
I double checked to see that I didn't pack my cell phone or keys.  Looks like rain here Monday, and there is no sense in making two trips with high gas prices.  I will PM Alan of my plans and will send him a tracking number later.  Best wishes.  Gary

Cheers Gary.  I got about a foot of rain yesterday and it's raining again today, but don't worry. I'll put on my Wellies when the box gets here so at least my feet won't get wet.

As much as I complain about the rain, I've never known us to get that amount in such a short span of time. Hope you dry out soon!

We normally appreciate the rain here in Texas but Dallas and Houston have been getting hit pretty hard lately.  I wish the rain would spread out around Texas equally so we can all get a little bit.

I got a tied a clothesline to the somethin' and a.....?  You lost me there somewhere, Bob.  Need a photo, I think.  Best wishes.  G

1. Cut some paracrod. I think this was a little under a foot when I started.

2. Take one end and tie a tautline through the hole at the end of the lever.
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

3. Tie a bowline at the other end of the rope. Adjust to slip tightly over the handle before you pull it tight. It probably makes more sense to just tie it on the knife.
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

4. Trim and whip/fuse ends as needed.

5. To "lock closed" slide the bowline over the handle with the knife closed, and then slide the tautline until it's...taut.
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

6. To "hold open" (I definitely wouldn't call it a lock, but it's a little extra stability) you can either wrap the line around the lever or slip the bowline over and snug the tautline.
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

And, either way, there's now a little bit of lanyard you can grab.

What a great tutorial, BP.  Plus, I already know how to tie the knots, so I don't have to strain my brain on anything new.  I think I used to call the tautline hitch a rolling hitch or something.  I looked it up and found out I have been tying a Magnus hitch all this time.  I learned the bowline ages ago.  It's good to see how you did it.  If I had gone by the description alone it would have come out some other way.
   Best wishes.  G

If you ask 5 people what they call a knot and how to tie it, it feels like you always get 6 different answers. Post a pic when you're done setting yours up and let me know how it does for you.
