Bring back Leatherman Japan
on: November 10, 2022, 09:33:55 AM
I was looking for a JPST again, and it got me thinking. Leatherman is trying to innovate, but also keep costs down, and they've also been going back in time, tweaking older designs.
So, why not have something made in Japan?

I'm not saying move production there. But how about a Japanese branch? Japan are also known for their precision and build quality, and it would keep costs down. And there is history with Leatherman and Japan already, so there would be nostalgic/sentimental value too. Maybe a Japanese line of tools? A folding knife or two?

I'd certainly be interested.

Interesting idea, except I do understand that Japan’s manufacturing costs are equal or more than the USA’s.  That is one of the reasons the Honda, KIA and Subaru firms moved manufacturing to the U.S. in addition of the shipping costs involved. Along with import fees.

The playing field leveled with the precision manufacturing sector matching even Europe.

Cheap labor is now a China and India commodity that they exploit since the U.S. government encouraged world investment in that part of the world in the ‘70s and ‘80s. All to try and elevate quality of life in China and The Koreas.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!
