Nice flashlight!  With LED lights nowadays, I have been using a tiny keychain light exclusively. Its just as bright as my MagLite from the 1990s if not more so. I have yet to make the upgrade to a full size LED.  :like:

Same, I haven't used anything bigger than my 3E EOS since my dad got my one for Christmas years ago.

Day 4

Today was also my first combo good use. Had an oddly package (envelope, UXPS box, envelope) packaged book delivered for school. The PE did better on the envelope while the SE did better on the box.

Day 4 - my youngest kid loves water and can be quite an experience getting her out of the shower (she is 3) but I have found that if I let her shower until the water runs out it's more of a game to her and everything go smoothly. The water runs out when I shut the valves and I usually open the water box with my SAK but the nob on the lock worked great for this with a nice snug fit

Is that some sort of screwdriver feature on the Spatha?  Does that mean it’s a multitool?

After observing people in my surroundings one could argue that "everything is a screwdriver if you are brave enough" but it's really the button for the lock and anything more robust than this lock would probably break it. But right there and then it truly was a multitool

Day 4: Mail Call.

Schylling Rodeo Champions Barrel Racing Series Karissa Mae. I wanted a poseable rider that worked with Schleich's 1:18 scale. Schleich's cowgirl has no articulation, and of the small number of riders with limited articulation they recently introduced, none were Western. Schylling produced the Rodeo Champions range from 2007-2012, yet for some reason, it has high secondary market prices, despite being rather inexpensive back then.  Among the quite large lineup, a series of four cowgirls and four horses was done.

A seller had a bunch of old-stock examples on bad cards for about $12 each, and I bought two of this one to be able to keep one on the card. Both cards exhibited yellowing, so I think that I won't have qualms opening up the other three in the series once I buy them.

While it's not as good as most 3 3/4" scale figures, the articulation is MUCH better than just a static rider. The horse is an older Schleich horse I had. It was the only one the included halter/bridle fit on.

Pic 1 - Breaking down box duty for a trip to the recycling depot.

Pic 2 - Turns out the reason my screen door never worked properly was because it was installed backwards and upside down!  :dunno: Soldier 08 was able to pop the door off its tracks. Didn’t get a pic at the time so you will have to accept my dramatic reenactment

Great use of the flat head as a pry tool  :tu:  That is exactly why I never want to have a blade without at least a lightweight prybar nearby... the urge to use the blade as a prybar is just too great *snap*!!

Day 4

Now that I have time on the weekend, I decided to sharpen my e307x.  Not only was the blade pretty dull, it is also 154CM and it has serrations...  Yeah, not a fun combo for easy sharpening  :ahhh

For the job, I used my Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener.  I have used it several times with straight blades made of softer steel, and it works great.  FYI - I use this guy's instructions for sharpening:

It took a while, but now I have a decent edge on the whole blade.  I had a hard time getting a burr on the 154CM, but I was just patient and ran the blade through multiple passes.  I think I may try again for a sharper edge later this month.

Here's a close up of the new edge.  You can also see how this blade has been used a lot.  It doesn't look that scratched in person - it just seems worse with a close up and the light angled right.

Day 6

No use today, but an informal poll. How do people feel about the holeless backside awl on the 08? I think it's my least favorite of the 3 current models. While I'm sure it's marginally more durable than the 91mm's sewing eye model (and one less place to get crudded up), the eye is "free" utility. The 93mm inline is my favorite, being both more comfortable to use, and a great secondary blade.

I remember working on an event and watching the lighting guys struggling to cut through some very thick blanket. They were getting about two inches a minute with their blade and had at least 10 feet to cut. So I gave them my SAK, which was pretty much as sharp as possible, and it slid right through, only took a minute to complete. I looked at the blade they were using and it was a completely dull CE skeletool. But I remember thinking how that dull serrated portion was still working. It would have taken a good long time but they would have been able to complete the task.

I'm not into combo edges because I'm a fanatical sharpener but serrations are still functional when dull, so for many people and tasks they make good sense.

Great thread guys, enjoying it a lot :salute:

RE: the sewing eye, I agree, while I don't think I've ever used it, I never turn down free utility.

Interesting question.  I never used the sewing eye myself, but I agree that it can be a value add when you are doing repairs and are in somewhat of a bind.

Day 7

(Image removed from quote.)

There's a survival instructor on YouTube somewhere that has said that he carries a Leatherman Wave, because he likes to have a serrated blade and a plain edge.  He says that serrated blades are best used for cutting man-made things, and plain edges are good for natural things.

Makes good sense to me.  Serrated edge for plastic and paracord, plain edge for wood and food.
