I don't have any tips for sharpen a SB but cutting down cardboard are one of the few things other than bread that I choose a SB for

+1 for serrated on cardboard. I have a few tools that have a small serrated secondary blade, and I often grab them for opening boxes.

Use the Spyderco Sharpmaker for serrated knives. Never even considered it to be a problem.

My partially serrated knife however, that had expected delivery date tomorrow… well, lets just say that distance is only partially travelled. And barely that.

Next week for sure. Hopefully early.

Here is my current setup: Soldier 08, Wurkkos fc11, Zebra f701, in a Viperade pouch. Considering not carrying the pen everyday as I’m not finding I use it frequently.

Day 3

Used the CE blade to open a bottle of pills for my wife. This was completely overkill, but the challenge is the challenge. Still no uses that called out for serrated/combo edge.

Indeed!
Checked tracking now, and after not moving for a while it must have picked up some speed. Actually showed up in Norway this morning. Packages don't tend to move much over the weekends, but at least it's progress. Early next week is realistic :)

Day 3 - I just watched the Felix video on how to sharpen serrated blades and will give it a try when needed! Thanks for the tip!

Other than that I had more mailduty and the Spatha did short work of the plastic package to save my new thermal base layer

Day 3

A hectic day at work, so not much except cutting out the crosswords for Kid n°1.

Say, cutting newspaper works 1000 times better with a good SE. There's one thing that this CE doesn't do very well, for sure.

It's OK if you have a surface under the paper, and can use the tip of the knife to do the cutting.

I'm not complaining, just rediscovering the challenges.

Day 3:

Speaking of sharpening, I know that these carbide type sharpeners aren’t popular around here, but I’ve had great success with mine! A few very gentle pulls in the “honing” direction and the blade is razor sharp again.

Day 3

Today I experienced an advantage of a combo blade.  I purchased my e307x used, and while it was in great condition, I suspect that it has never been sharpened.  I just started using it for this challenge, so I haven't sharpened it yet either... and it definitely needs to be sharpened.

Take a look at my pic - you can see a cut that didn't go all the way through the padded envelope.  That was the first cut using the straight part of the blade.  No go  :td: . For the next cut, I used the serrated part.  The serrations grabbed on and helped the blade rip through easily.  Yeah, it wasn't the most elegant cut, but it showed me that a combo blade is very handy if you let your knife get dull.  :tu:

Day 3:

Decided to see how the serrations on the Funxion whittled. SAK scallops work great ,and I figured triple points would be to pointy to whittle. Nope, worked just fine.

I also used both the blade and seatbelt cutter to remove twine from hay.

I picked up this inexpensive Italian-made MAC Coltellerie two-blade hawkbill for use as a work knife, only to not use it much.

Technically, the hawkbill is the secondary blade, as the main blade is the cable stripping blade which locks. The part-serrated hawkbill doesn't.

Worked fine removing a plastic blister from a box I needed to repurpose.  I also admit to having to resort to the straight-edge section on the cable stripping blade to cleanly cut paracord to replace some shoelaces, as I needed a clean cut.

Wow!  That's a cool saw on your PST!  :tu:

Thanks Rich  :tu:

I picked it up cheap on eBay as the file was completely broken off and the small driver not much better. Turned the driver into an awl and @Gregozedobe very kindly donated the saw, which from memory is from a Gerber….or was it a SOG  :dunno: :twak:

I’d seen the mod on one of the PST threads so thought I’d have a go. Used what was left of the file to trace out the shape on the saw for the fitting and a little dremel work later, got myself a PST II with a saw

It’s a very handy tool as I tend to use saws more than files. Luckily I’ve another PST II as the file on it is very good, but tend to carry this mod more

(Image removed from quote.)

That’s part of the benefit there. A dull serrated knife will cut long after a dull plain blade will.  And I daresay that most people don’t sharpen their knives. They just use them with more force until they buy a new one.

Nice flashlight!  With LED lights nowadays, I have been using a tiny keychain light exclusively. Its just as bright as my MagLite from the 1990s if not more so. I have yet to make the upgrade to a full size LED.  :like:

I had forgotten how much those full size MT are so heavy compared to the PST !
